Roatan Monkeys & Sloths + Chokolade & Rum Smagning + Strandferie

This excursion was amazing! It truly highlighted a lot of the Roatán lifestyle and beautiful nature. Our tour guide Alanis and her husband Moises were so sweet! They were very patient, kind, considerate, and informative about the island. At AJ’s, the tour guide Michelle was amazing as well! She was so friendly and funny. She made sure we all had enough time to interact with the animals and take pictures as well. The chocolate and rum factories were cool to explore too. Ending the excursion with a small beach break was perfect! The beach was so pretty and clean. Highly recommend this excursion if you are visiting Roatan, Honduras!

Alanis made up for the less exciting monkey and sloth part of the excursion. Walking to the pick up area in humid weather is annoying.

We had a fabulous time with our guide, Alanis, and driver, Moses. Alanis shared many details of local life with us as we drove around the area. The van was air-conditioned, clean and comfortable. We learned about schools, energy, industries, shopping, history and funny nicknames of local spots. The monkey and sloth stop was so much fun. Being able to interact with the baby monkeys was a blast even in the pouring rain. (A shout out to DJ, who was our tour guide at that stop!) The enclosures were covered so the rain was not a huge problem and even helped to cool us off. I would suggest always taking a rain slicker if you are going to do any tour when rainy season has started or is about to start. The chocolate factory was interesting and we picked up some treats to bring home. The rum stop was tasty as well. The last beach stop allowed us to enjoy the water or just sit and enjoy a snack and beverage. The one thing I will say is finding the spot to meet can be a bit overwhelming. You have to leave the port area and walk through a lot of vendors all wanting your business. I knew from our excursion the day before to look for the local name and not Viator. I printed the instructions on how to get there and that was a huge help. I would recommend taking bug spray, small bills in cash, a hat, a carry bag for shopping (the paper bags they give are thin and tear easily), and a rain slicker. Overall, this was a fabulous day for us because our guide and driver were so wonderful, engaging and helpful.

Jason and Phoebe were such great tour guides, they really cared about our experience and making sure we did what we wanted to do. As far as the meeting point- you need to walk alll the way to the main road and they will be there with a sign, it was very confusing to us where to go, so make sure you don’t get in the line where the cruise ship excursions are this was an off boat excursion. The monkey and sloth experience was once in a lifetime, you won’t regret it!

On arrival at the cruise port, we had to walk outside the port to meet our tour guide. There were about a bazillion vendors trying to sell us a tour, but as soon as we informed each set of vendors that we had already booked a tour with another company, they were quick and helpful in pointing us to where we would find our tour guide. Upon meeting Julie, we waited a few minutes for everyone else to arrive, then we loaded into her van. The tour is limited in size by the number of people who will fit into the van, so no more than a dozen people or so. During the ride to our first destination, we learned that Julie is the owner of the (small) business. She was very personable and more than willing to answer any questions. She was happy to alter the tour in any way that the group desired, but we all agreed to the tour as planned. We loved the monkey and sloth sanctuary, and enjoyed quick stops at the chocolate shop and rum cake shop. When we let Julie know that we were looking to purchase some vanilla, she took us to a gas station/quick stop where we could by vanilla from the locals at 1/4 the price of what was being charged at the tourist shops. We then enjoyed 2 hours at a private beach (she gave us the option to go to a free public beach but our group decided on the $20 admission to the very nice beach club, which included the use of a chair, the ability to get drinks, etc). There were still hawkers, even at the beach club, but police were patrolling the beach to make sure customers were not harassed. At the end of the tour, we felt like Julie was a friend. She took great care of us, and we 1000% recommend her tour company.

Highly recommend booking this tour if you want to see the highlights of the island! It's the perfect excursion if you're on a cruise and it's your first time in Roatan. Alanis, our tour guide, was so welcoming and friendly, and our driver did a great job getting the group around the island safely. The meeting instructions were easy to follow. You'll meet your guide just outside the port gate. You may have to make your way past a few excursion promoters, but they're happy to point you to the right tour. Our first stop was Manawakie Park, where we saw a sloth, macaws, and white-faced monkeys, and even got to interact with them. Afterwards, we stopped at Mayak Chocolate to try some samples. It can get crowded and a bit touristy, but the chocolate makes a great souvenir to bring back for friends. Next was the rum factory, where we sampled their rums and rum cakes. It has a beautiful overlook of the sea, so definitely take a moment to enjoy the view! Then we got to choose between a private beach and a public beach, both in the same area. The private beach requires a day pass fee, so our group opted for the public beach, which was still great. You can rent chairs or grab a bite at the restaurant there. After the beach, we stopped at the colorful Roatan sign, where we took group photos. It was a fun way to wrap up the day and get a great keepsake from the trip! We made it back to the port with plenty of time to spare before the ship's departure, which is exactly what you want on a cruise excursion. Overall, this tour was a fantastic mix of wildlife, local treats, great views, beach time, and photo ops, all without the stress of planning it yourself. If you only have one day in Roatan, this is a great way to spend it. Thanks again to Alanis and our driver for a memorable day!

We want to give a big shout out to GoTours/Roatan adventures guide Jose/Joel. He is an amazing guide!! Very personable, fun, funny, lots of facts/information, helpful and so on. He helped with our beach bag and drove us around to the beach, rum tasting and chocolate tasting. This was our first excursion and we loved it. It was just me and my husband and the tour guide. We highly recommend this place. THANK YA'LL!!
