Rejseplan
I mistakenly thought I had gotten in the Heidelberg tour as it essentially had the same description and picture. Was very disappointed to not see Heidelberg. The tour guide was great. Need to explain the co dictions of touring a castle especially for those that may not be able to do the terrain . My sister was unable to foot so her husband stayed beni d with her so essentially paid for a tour she couldn’t do. Understand not being able to be on the Rhine but should have been told in time for us to cancel if we had wanted to!
Was the worst ever. Not properly advertised. No air conditioning. Would not recommend. Would never do it again
On the day of the tour we had such a temperature increase that the air conditioning system could not completely cope with the temperature outside during midday. These two passengers claimed that it has been quite warm in the car. Therefore, on their way to the castle he drove with open windows and made stops in between. In their refund request the passengers mentioned "they experienced great pain". Fact is that the passengers never gave comments like "they experienced great pain" during the tour - it is common sense that such an extraordinary situation would have required the immediate termination of the trip. Fact is also that the other customers did not complain. Europe experiences climate changes, this year we had heat in Western and Southern parts , even with major forest fires in France, Spain, Italy and Greece. Germany has been spared from such disasters. But of course, we had much higher summer temperatures than usual and it had been an extremely dry period, which has now come to an end. It is raining. We apologize for the inconvenience but the weather is beyond our influence. The tour program has been completely fulfilled. What do you mean with "Not properly advertised"?
We thoroughly enjoyed our Rhine Valley tour with our guide Michael! While we had to go via bus instead of boat as the Rhine is at record low levels, we travelled along side the Rhine all the way, viewing many castles and picturesque towns. On the way, we enjoyed a traditional German lunch of pork schnitzel and beer at Zum Anker before continuing along side to Marksburg Castle. Our local guide there took us on a comprehensive tour of the castle, up and down numerical stone stairs; he not only shared its history but entertained us with stories of the castle inhabitants. On the way back to Frankfurt we stopped to taste Rhineland Ice, Riesling and Red wines. Michael took great care of us; he was cordial and professional, and he is very knowledgeable about Rhineland. All in all, an enjoyable day!
We had a wonderful time on our Rhine Valley tour from Frankfurt! Our tour guide, Michael, was very nice, helpful, and personable, and he did a great job making the day enjoyable. Unfortunately, the Rhine River was too low for us to take the planned river cruise. But Michael made the most of the situation by taking us farther by vehicle, which allowed us to see even more beautiful castles along the Rhine. We even had the opportunity to tour Marksburg Castle, which was a highlight of the day! Even though the cruise didn’t work out, we felt the tour was well worth it and really enjoyed the experience. We would definitely recommend this tour—and especially Michael—as a guide!
I had booked a Rhine River cruise, but the trip was switched to a bus tour due to low water levels in the river. There was no advance notice; I only found out when boarding the bus on the day of the tour, leaving me no option to cancel. Departure was delayed by over 30 minutes because the scheduled guide was suddenly unable to make it, and we had to wait for a replacement. Even after the substitute guide arrived, there was no explanation of the itinerary—such as where we were going or what the next stop would be. Lunch consisted of salty schnitzel and cold french fries—which seemed to have been fried hours earlier—served in a dubious, dusty restaurant. While other nearby establishments were filled with happy diners, this restaurant was occupied solely by our tour group. The wine tasting also took place back at the same restaurant at the end of the tour; we sampled four types of wine that had been poured into small shot glasses and left sitting out beforehand, all while listening to the guide's commentary. There is no concept of temperature control for the wine; reds, whites, and even ice wines are all served at room temperature. You certainly shouldn't expect a tasting experience where you gaze out at vineyards or stop by a winery. If I were to put a price on this tour, I’d value it at around 50 euros—essentially just the cost of the bus ride. I wouldn't recommend paying over 200 dollars and wasting your precious travel time and money on it.
We booked this trip as a “river cruise”, to be told at the bus entry (no notice by Viator) that there was no cruise due to low levels (other boats on water, obviously not enough customers). It was a shuttle tour to one castle, 2 very brief stops and horrible food & wine. (No drinks/water included even water) wine tasting is same as restaurant location, sadly. One star only for our bus guide who was knowledgeable & our castle tour guide. Skip this tour. Read other reviews. Save your money and time.
This is the travel experience that I feel the most disappointed and angry. I booked this tour one day before. When we met at 11:15 at the meeting point, the driver/the guide told us that the cruise/boat part had to be cancelled and replaced by the castle visit because of the low water level of River Rhine. I was very upset and angry to ask the driver if refund was possible as I joined this trip because of the River Rhine cruise. I don’t think Viator knew about the low water level in the last minute. If Viator had known about the low water level of River Rhine and having a cruise trip was impossible, they should not have continued selling the trip tickets to customers. I have the feeling that I was cheated by Viator. The price of the tour is not cheap. If I knew that I would not be able to take a River Rhine trip, I would definitely not join this tour. One more aspect is the poor quality of the lunch. The option I chose was beef sausage. I did not expect that there was only one sausage and some salad, and the amount of the food was not enough for me as an adult. When we sat down, the waitress asked us what drink we would like to have (beer, Coca Cola, or wine). However, she never said that drinks were not included in the lunch and we had to pay for drinks. So, I ordered Coca Cola and my husband ordered wine. At the end, we were asked to pay €15 for the drinks. Once again, we were cheated because of not being reminded that we need to pay for the drinks. If I had known that the drinks had to be paid, I would not have ordered them. I would definitely not recommend others to join Viator unless you would like to have an unpleasant travel experience as the driver/guide’s attitude was arrogant when I argued with him about the issues I have encountered. I hope he can be fired by Viator.
Our experience from start to finish was not as expected. Upon arrival we were informed by our guide that the river cruise was canceled because of low tide & only option was driving to see more castles . It would have been better if they had called Orr emailed us prior to start of trip. Lunch options were limited since we are halal food or vegetarian! We were not informed about the Marksburg castle visit which had 100 steps to go up since I had hip surgery ,so no option but to sit there at parking lot for 2 + hours!!!!!!! Drop off back from tour was 1 hour later & we had made dinner reservations which had to be cancelled!!!!!!!!!!
Please take note since the 7th of August the boats on the Rhine river are not operating anymore due to low water. This will change with the weather conditions, shipping companies decide from day to day. For the time being we will visit a castle instead. Please take note under "Inclusions - Boat ride" we have a note "see additional info" and under "Additional Info" everyone that books this tour finds the information that on few occasions for example low water we will visit a castle or historic site instead. If the customers had informed us prior to the tour that one person has mobility issues we could have informed them prior to the tour. Quite apart from the fact that the international news published information on the very hot summer in Europe and low water problems on the Rhine and Danube river over the last weeks. Indoor visits of historic buildings, residences and medieval castles: You have to expect uneven pavement and steep stairs. This should be generally known by the public. Besides that our tour guide informed us that this customer told him on the spot that she is not interested in visiting the castle. She never mentioned any hip surgery or that she has any mobility issues. She waited approx. 1 hour (not 2hours) outside in a cafe on the terrace of the castle which you can only reach when you climb the stairs up to the castle. She could have also sit inside the cafe and not outside but she did not. And if she was able to climb the stairs up to the castle why did she not join the castle tour? She definitely did not sit at a parking lot for 1 hour or even 2 hours. This is simply a lie. Regarding lunch in the restaurant: As per the "Inclusions" on your website for this tour drinks and gratuities are not included in this tour. Besides that the guests never mentioned anything regarding halal food. They only said the restaurant had not enough options for non meat eaters. Please take note this is a regular tour and in summer we have large groups. There is no time to order any menus a la carte. Please take note the lunch took place in a traditional german restaurant and you cannot get any halal food in a traditional german restaurant. There is also no information on Viator website regarding this tour that any halal food is offered. Nor did they request any halal food prior to the tour date. We also want to mention that as the small wine tasting started this passenger said she had no interest in joining the wine tasting either without further explanation. After the wine tasting was finished she came back very happy and said she made a lot of photos of the facilities of the restaurant. We arrived in Frankfurt at approx. 7:30 pm not 8:00 pm as mentioned in the refund request. This can be confirmed by the tour guide, the bus driver the office staff and all other passengers that joined the tour. This tour has a duration of 8 hours. The tour starts at 11:15 am and ends between 7:00 and 7:30 pm. So how is it possible that you make a dinner reservation for 7:30 pm when you know you are joining a full day tour which ends at the meeting point between 7:00 and 7:30 pm?
Amazing trip, wonderful small towns, a lot of castles and vineyards by the way, picturesque Rhine valley and very comfy atmosphere, created by our knowledgeable and friendly guide George and driver Andreas. Thank you very much, George, for this great trip!
This was the worst tour ever. The way it was laid out sounded really good but afterwards we realized it was the most expensive, boring tour we had ever been to.
