A big mis-sell and cheating.. no profession guided tour provided although committed. Just a very expensive transport

The company missold the trip ... it was just transport and zoo ticket. Guided tour with a professional was communicated in the marketing brochure but the so called 'guides' were just there to count the number of passengers. when asked they mentioned they were not zooologists and to just read the signage. Very disappointing experience.

Surprising visit

Thanks to the guides Guillermo and Sofia who explained everything you wanted to know about each animal, they also picked us up at the hotel and returned us to the same on the return. The truth is that they were both super attentive and friendly. It's nice to visit like that.

Animal friends to avoid

We came up with the idea of visiting an animal park in the wilderness but it was more of a zoo with fences and cages...the poor polar bear stuck in his large enclosure seemed just as depressed as us to see it there...wolves also have an enclosure that seemed really small to us when we know that the forest is endless here....it is sure that for visitors to see the animals it is easier if the spaces are small but for their well-being it seems obvious that l space is lacking.fortunately that on the road we met reindeer...free those there

We are sorry for your experience at the park being unsatisfactory and we thank you for sharing your insights. However, please note that the Ranua Wildlife Park gives great important to the animal welfare. The park is part of the EAZA association which one of the main purposes is to protect and preserve arctic species. Arctic nature is vulnerable, and the effects of climate change are particularly strong in the region. Many of the animal species that reside at the wildlife park are in danger of becoming extinct or becoming extremely endangered in the wild. Animals are never caught from the wild, most animals were born in another wildlife park as part of a propagation and population maintenance programme ensuring the preservation of a sufficiently diverse population for each animal species. Some animals have also been rescued from the wild (injured or hungry). The park priority is always to return such foster animals to the wild as required by law, but if the animal has not rehabilitated in such a way that they could survive in the wild, they may remain in the park permanently. The large enclosures are designed with the needs of the species in mind and made as wide as possible. Although, it is not possible to have an infinite fence with all animals together like in the wild, otherwise the predators would eat other species… You may also know that reindeers are free roaming in the summer/autumn when there is abundance of food in the forest. They return home, to their reindeer herders, in the winter where they can have a sufficient access to food. We are sorry if our guide didn’t get the chance to share all these information with you. We hope these few details allowed you to get a better understanding of the Ranua Park, although there is still so much more to learn about it… Kind regards, The SMP team

You can skip that

As u visit this area in the winter time you can totally skip that experience. You won't see a lot of animals.

Operatørens svar

Dear Jessi, We are sorry to hear your time with us didn’t go exactly as expected. In facts, some animals of the wildlife park like brown bears and racoon dogs are hibernating in the winter. Some birds have to go inside to stay warm like the Short Haired Owl. There is still plenty of animals who stay awake in the winter, like the arctic foxes, polar bear, wolves… But they are living animals and are not on display, and sometimes they go inside to sleep. They don’t have a fixed schedule so we cannot predict in advance what animals will be outside during the visiting time. We hope that if you get the chance to come back, you will have more luck to see the animals, weather it will be in winter or summer. Kindly, The SMP team

Winterwonderland

It was very good organized! The Tour and the animals was great, but the best was the guide!! He (Marcos) gave us a lot of Information. Not only about the animals as well about life in finnland and all other things i‘m interested to know. An absolutely sympathical man. He gave us enough time to see everything. We talked about other tours too and what we liked there. We made different tours like snowmobil or huskytour. I can say both are very very good! Do it of you stay in Lapland! Best wishes, Markus

Zoo Visit

We really enjoyed our visit, unfortunately with going in the winter the brown bears were hibernating, there was only one polar bear out but apart from that myself and my children had a lovely time.
