Fra midten af november til nytårsaften forvandles Wiens smukkeste firkanter til magiske julmarkeder. De generøst oplyste monumentale bygninger langs ringen gør en fabelagtig kulisse og aromaen af julebagerier og hot punch skaber en stemning før jul. Snack på flødefuldt bagværk, kandiseret frugt, stegte kastanjer og Weihnachtspunsch (en krydret "julestans" med vin, brandy eller snaps sødet med varme frugtsaft). Beliggende på næsten hvert hjørne af byen, er der et væld af markedshytter at gennemse med den største markør foran det imponerende rådhus. Art Mart foran den spektakulært oplyste St. Charles 'kirke er fuld af udformede gaver, traditionelle fødevarer og en legeplads for børn.
St. Stephen's Cathedral er omgivet af et marked med typiske wienske ting som sne-globes. Duften af jul er alle omkring.
Kohlmarkt og Graben er en del af Wiens "Golden Quarter". Byens mest berømte kaffe-roster "Julius Meinl" og den mest berømte konditor "Demel" skiller sig ud over alle luksusbutikkerne.

Brigitte was such a delight when touring us around the Christmas markets in Vienna. She was very knowledgeable and we appreciated her little tidbits of history throughout the night. She was very engaging and personable. Not many tour guides care to ask for the individual names of their clients, but Brigitte made sure that was the first thing she found out when she met us! She was very patient while we were walking and we aren’t used to walking in Vienna’s winter weather, so it was nice to feel like we weren’t being rushed around. Brigitte is aware that some of Vienna’s sights and happenings are being catered to the increased tourism in the city, so she made sure to show us and bring us to places that exhibited the authenticity of Viennese way of life. Before leaving us for the night, Brigitte made sure to give us specific directions for the quickest route back to our AirBnB where she met us. Would definitely recommend for future tours!!

Travelers should know that this tour is much better and deeper than a simple Christmas Market tour. Walter is a scholarly tour guide who took us to numerous Christmas Markets, big and small; public and remote; old and newer. He shared concepts about Paris architecture, politics, culture, international influences, food, city government and infrastructure. We loved every minute and will book again next year.
