Poseidonia blev grundlagt af grækerne i slutningen af det 7. århundrede f.Kr. Navnet var relateret til den græske gud Poseidon, havets beskytter. Dette arkæologiske område er nu en af de bedst bevarede byer fra tiderne for græsk kolonisering. Vi vil gå og opdage udviklingen af denne gamle by fra grækerne til romerne gennem ruinerne af templer dedikeret til Athena, Hera, Apollo og Zeus. I Paestum er der også et utroligt Nationalmuseum, der viser os nogle af de vigtigste artefakter fra græsk og romertid, hvor det er muligt at se den malede dykkergrav, et mesterværk for 2500 år siden. Poseidonia / Paestum er en vidunderlig kulturarv beskyttet af UNESCO. *** Den første og tredje mandag i hver måned er Nationalmuseet lukket ***

Under besøget i det arkæologiske område vil jeg vise dig ruinerne af templerne, Heronen (graven til den mytiske grundlægger af den græske by), Roman Forum og det romerske boligområde.
I Nationalmuseet skal jeg forklare dig stenfrisen, der dekorerede Hera-templet, nogle artefakter produceret som tilbud til guder, rustninger og våben fra romerske krigere og maleregravene.

Roberto was a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable guide. We trully enjoyed our experience. He arranged a driver from Salerno to Paestum Paestum is a very well preserved greek temple complex built 400 BC, which is truly awe inspiring . I highly recommend the visit specially if Roberto is your guide. On a high speed train Salerno is about 1.5 hrs from Rome

I can't recommend this tour enough! Roberto, our guide, was fantastic! Exploring Paestum with a professional archaeologist was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our guide brought the ancient city to life with his in-depth knowledge and fascinating stories. His passion for the history of the site was absolutely contagious. I also learnt about the architecture, about daily life in the ancient world, the significance of Paestum in Magna Grecia, and how archaeology continues to uncover new details. Seeing the ruins is impressive on its own, but understanding them through the eyes of an expert makes it unforgettable. After the ruins, Roberto took us to the archaeological museum—and that was a highlight in itself. We saw famous artifacts like the Tomb of the Diver, stunning pottery, and everyday objects that helped paint a fuller picture of ancient life. This has been one the better guided tours. Our guide, Lucia, is very knowledgeable, polite, and engaging. She made the difference for our visit to the Paestum site and museum. She is an excellent communicator with her diction and knowledge of English.
Our guide was exceptional! She was educational, clear, and kind. She made sure to engage everyone and also made sure to do the explanations in the shade. She also made sure we saw the highlights in the museum.
Paestum was the initial stop of a multi day tour. Roberto clearly explained the layout of the site and continued with detailed descriptions of numerous spots. His descriptions were again concise and easily understood. My knowledge of ancient Roman history was limited but expanded greatly with his explanations. Great tour.
Roberto’s insightful explanations and extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman histories made this archeological and historical site come to life. Without Roberto’s leadership, much of this site would just be ruins but he his explanations were excellent.
Roberto knows his way around and knows the hidden gems! He took us to great sites - views and gardens that are so beautiful. He is wonderful about watching out for those in our group who needed more assistance on stairs or walking up steep areas. He is very adaptable and knowledgeable.
Angelo was the best. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He explained things that were not on any plaque, especially how and why things were built.
