We had the most wonderful private craft village tour with Vu, who was simply an exceptional guide. Having first met him on a Hanoi food tour, we reached out to see if he could show us around for our last day in Vietnam — and we’re so glad we did. Vu tailored the day perfectly to our interests and travel plans. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the incense village, where his warm rapport with the locals and deep knowledge of the craft made the experience truly special. Watching the colourful incense sticks being made and hearing the stories behind them was fascinating. Next, Vu took us to have tea with a local couple — a Vietnam War veteran and his wife. It was a humbling and heartwarming experience; they were so generous with their time and happy to share about their lives and community. From there, we visited a family who make traditional conical hats and enjoyed a delicious home-cooked lunch. Vu had also arranged an extra stop at the silk village at our request, where we saw older-style looms still in use and met a family who have been in the silk trade for generations. The day finished with a visit to a local charity workshop, where people with disabilities create beautiful art from silk scraps — a meaningful and inspiring way to end the village visits. We then returned to the city for an afternoon exploring the Temple of Literature and the Ho Chi Minh precinct — the perfect balance of culture and history to round out the day. Everything about the experience felt genuine, thoughtful, and personal. Vu’s passion for sharing his culture and connecting people with local communities really shines through. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more memorable experience. Highly recommend reaching out to Vu if you want a truly authentic and engaging Vietnam adventure.
