Privat halvdag til Killing Field & S21 folkemordsmuseum i Phnom Penh

Khmer Rouge gjorde Toul Sleng High School til et center for forhør, tortur og død. Tusindvis af foto af ofre kan ses i hvert værelse. Du går langsomt og undersøger det materiale, der bruges til forhør af fanger. Derefter rejser vi ca. 15 km mod sydvest for Phnom Penh, ankommer vi til Choeung Ek. Mindesmærket ved Choeung Ek lige uden for Phnom Penh var en frugtplantage! Og en kinesisk kirkegård før 1975. Under Khmer Rouge-regimet blev det et af drabsfelterne stedet for de brutale henrettelser af mere end 17.000 individer, hvoraf de fleste først led af tortur og berøvelse i Toul Sleng fængsel. Choeung Ek er nu en gruppe af massegraver og en mindestupa, der indeholder tusinder af kranier. Kom tilbage til hotellet og aflever.

Tuol Sleng var en tidligere gymnasium, som Khmer Rouge blev til et center for forhør, tortur og død. I dag er det et museum for tortur og tjener til at minde besøgende om de forfærdelige grusomheder, der skete i Cambodja. 17.000 mennesker gik gennem dette fængsels porte, og kun syv boede for at fortælle historien.
Fanger fra Tuol Sleng fulgte den samme vej til deres skæbne. En gammel kinesisk kirkegård, Choeng Ek, blev omdannet til en udryddelseslejr for politiske fanger. Resterne af 8985 mennesker blev udstødt fra massegrave og opbevares i et mindesmagasin her. På trods af fortidens rædsler er det et fredeligt sted at gå og et roligt sted at reflektere over de tragiske begivenheder, der indhyllede Cambodja og dets folk.

On our first visit to Phnom Penh, we felt we needed to visit the Killing Fields and Genocidal Museum to understand the full extent of the atrocities that happened here, but also to pay our respect to the victims. Ms Thavy was an excellent private guide, allowing us to move at our own pace, giving us clear explanations for everything we saw, but also giving us time alone to see and reflect on the mass graves and the museum exhibits. It was a hard morning, and what we really found difficult, was that this all happened in our lifetime. Thank you Ms Thavy for your knowledge, guidance and professionalism - you made a difficult experience easier.

A sobering and sad experience but important to learn about . Our guide Mrs Thavy was very good in explaining the true horrors of what happened here. Excellent tour. Boat was easy. We had early pickup so rushed through early breakfast at hotel but need not have bothered - croissant and fruit on board would have been sufficient. Guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Great day

We had a fantastic tour with Mr Silong to S21 and the Killing Fields. Mr Silong spoke excellent English and was so informative about the history. Mrs. Thavy Was an amazing guide. She shared with us her personal experience with losing her father and the survival of her family. The subject matter is horrific, but we should all see the evil that can be done so we can stop it from happening again.

The Killing Field trip was a difficult one, but Mrs. Sreyneang was an excellent guide. She explained in detail what had happened, but with empathy and at a speed that we could digest it all. Her knowledge and caring came through and we felt lucky to have such an amazing tour guide. She even took us to meet the last two living survivors of the prison. That is something we won't forget. We recommend that everyone do this tour so we all fully understand how awful human beings can be to each other. It also shows how much people tried to help each other in a desperate time.
