I 1988 blev den gravet op. Med en kapacitet på omkring 7000 tilskuere var det en af de største i Roman Hispania, udgravet næsten udelukkende i klippen. Det romerske teatermuseum, designet af arkitekten Rafael Moneo, tager besøgende med indenfor i monumentet og gør det romerske teater til dets sidste store sal.
Consistorial Palace of Cartagena, også kendt som Cartagena City Hall, er en af de vigtigste modernistiske bygninger i byen, bygget mellem 1900 og 1907. Det er en trekantet bygning. Facaden er udelukkende udført i hvid marmor, og zinkkuplerne skiller sig ud på taget. Byen Carthago Nova var en af de mest pragtfulde i Romerriget. Siden den republikanske tid havde det et stort amfiteater. Det romerske forum i Carthago Nova var placeret i centrum af byen, ved sammenløbet af hovedvejene og mellem bjergene. Forummet lå cirka under den nuværende San Francisco-plads og er delvist udgravet. Blandt de vigtigste monumenter i forummet, der er blevet fundet indtil videre, er: - Tempel dedikeret til den kapitolinske triade: Jupiter, Juno og Minerva. - Augusteum. - Kurien, sæde for koloniens regering. - Bade og palestra fra den lave kejserperiode. - Isis-templet.

We shared a wonderful afternoon with Noelia. She is a lovely young lady with good history and stories of Cartagena. The Roman Amphitheater is amazing. Lost under rubble and homes for 2000 years and found by chance. The facades of Cartagena are beautiful in the old city. We highly recommend this tour.

Noelia is the most wonderful guide! It felt like we were walking around Cartagena with a friend. Her personal stories as a native of the area brought the history to life. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know much about the Spanish Civil War before this trip, but she helped us understand it and its impact to Cartagena and so many other communities. Know if you’re visiting on a Monday that most museums and landmarks are closed, but Noelia was so knowledgeable that it didn’t matter! And she was able to get us into a museum which we had all to ourselves! What a treat, especially since it was raining outside, it gave us a chance to keep learning and dry off :-) She was even kind enough to take us to a place for authentic Asiatico (espresso with Licorice 43 among other tasty ingredients) and help us find a reputable retailer to get a few glasses with the recipe to take home. At the end of our tour she recommended some non-tourist local spots for lunch and she was spot on. We had the most amazing experience because of her expertise, kindness, and patience. I hope to come back in the future and get in contact with her again. People like Noelia make travel adventures joyful and easy :-) Don’t do Cartagena on your own, book with Noelia and see the city in a way that only someone local can unveil for you.
