The history on Alcatraz was informative and you could feel and imagine what life was like back then and how they manage the site today.
Viator game the wrong address on the app. It said pier 39 when in fact it was pier 33. Got there and they couldn’t retrieve my code for quite a while. Very poor communication between them.
What an amazing experience! I visited with my children and extended family, and we all loved the rich history and the engaging audio tour. This is truly a must-do when visiting San Francisco!
Excellent. You have the choice of walking up to the cell blocks or taking a shuttle. We opted for the shuttle and received a running commentary as the gentleman drove. The audio facility was easy to follow.
They are 2 completely different boats and places to go to experience the trips. I didn't know this and almost missed my Alcatraz time. Had to run about 15 minutes down the ward to get the right place for the boat to the island, on pier 27, and then it was too late to catch the boat for the golden gate bridge ride, at the blue and gold fleet.
So much information to learn about this now National Park. Follow the small group guided tour and you will hear and see so much more about the island ! Thank you Constance Smith for volunteering your time and sharing your valuable knowledge & insights. Our special behind the scenes your was amazing! A history lesson we will not soon forget.
A great tour! If you don't have a guided tour with a guide...stay behind with the ranger and he will guide you a bit giving you very interesting information for free. It is a very cool place to see. Make sure to book your tickets WAY in advance as they sell out very fast! We wanted the behind the scenes tour but it was gone quick! I'd also recommend getting the early tour as it starts to get get very crowded very soon. One last thing...some of the outside walking is uphill. So if you have any trouble with that they do offer a tram ride up for those that may have with any disabilities.
We had a wonderful time we were skeptical without immediate confirmation but very happy with the outcome
