Med pladser, historiske bygninger, lokale legender, udsøgt arkitektur og selvfølgelig den fascinerende verden af Oaxacas markeder, vil denne tur give dig en fremragende intro til livet i byen samt hjælpe dig med at navigere i centrum under dit ophold. Turen begynder på hovedtorvet eller Zocalo, og udforsker byens moderne grundlag, katedralen og dens koloniale fortid. Herfra vil vi bevæge os ud på markederne, før de får for travlt. En integreret del af livet i Mexico vil vi udforske både Benito Juarez-madmarkedet og Mercado 20 de Noviembre-håndværksmarkedet, hvor du kan finde alle slags produkter og varer. Vi vil prøve noget typisk mad og drikkevarer, se på, hvordan chokolade fremstilles, besøge en Mezcal-superbutik, tjekke den verdensberømte 'pasillo de humo' (røgkorridor) samt hjælpe dig med at forstå layoutet af markederne til fremtidig reference og shopping. Tro os, du kan fare vild blandt overfloden af tekstiler, lædervarer, skomagere, keramik, stegte fårekyllinger og madboder! En rundvisning på markedet er et must på enhver tur til Mexico for både den lokale indsigt og tips om, hvor man kan spise og erhverve interessant lokalt kunsthåndværk og souvenirs.
Efter travlheden på markedet vil du glæde dig over at komme ind i oase af ro og biodiversitet, som er Oaxacas etnobotaniske have. Betragtes som en perle blandt botaniske haver, selvom den er relativt lille i størrelse, huser den et stort udvalg af kaktusser og agave, blandt dem endemiske for regionen. Our tour guide Jorge was so great. He is originally from Oaxaca city and had lots of history to share. He had many ‘life changing’ flavors and ingredients to show us, and by the end of the tour we realized he was right. We did the shorter, 2 hour tour and it was a good length. 3 hours would be even more fun to maybe taste more items and squeeze in more stories, but the city is small and walkable so we covered a lot of ground. Bring money to purchase snacks at the places you stop, cash is best because they are small purchases.

I had a wonderful tour with Jorge. His knowledge of the city coupled with his warm personality made the walk of Central Oaxaca City really come alive. Jorge tailor made the walk specific to my wishes (I wanted to visit and photograph the cathedrals) and was knowledgeable about each church - the history, the architecture and the politics. We also visited several markets and museums and took the time to really explore each of them. Again, I can highly recommend the tour and if you’re interested in really learning about the unique character and culture of Oaxaca City, this is definitely the tour to take - I can recommend it emphatically.

Excellent personalized tour of the city center. It happened that it was just my spouse and I so our guide, Jorge, was able to adjust our activities. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared his love of the city, the history, and area. We were able to shift our schedule and were able to see a neighborhood we would have otherwise missed. Jorge let us know when the English tour of the Botanical Garden was so we could work that into our schedule.

Great tour. Jorge was great. Be prepared to eat…there is a good sampling of foods. The garden portion of the tour is 2 hours so be prepared for that part.

My friend and I wanted to explore Oaxaca in an efficient and pleasant way, we are delighted because we were able to take advantage of the good addresses from our first visit with Mexico Kan Tours! We had the opportunity to visit a good part of the city, essential addresses, the markets, the botanical garden and the Santo Domingo church while walking and listening to the in-depth explanations and anecdotes from Axel who told us about them. learned more about the history of the city. The route chosen was relevant; we felt like we discovered a good part of Oaxaca in less than a day and the meal was absolutely delicious! Thank you for everything :)
