Beware as they will forget about the tour! Then we reached the operator and were told they would come an hour late with an apology. An hour later, still no show! An hour and a half later, the calls started coming nonstop. We are getting a refund but it ruined our day.
We are truly very sorry for the delay and understand how frustrating this situation was for you. Unfortunately, during your visit it was Teacher’s Day in Oaxaca, and several strikes and road blockages across many routes created major disruptions that were completely outside of our control. We understand this may sound like an excuse, but the transportation situation that day became extremely complicated throughout the city and surrounding areas. Our guide stayed in constant communication to explain the delays and keep you updated, although we understand that the repeated calls and messages may have added to your frustration rather than helping the situation. We immediately offered a full refund as well as a complimentary future visit to compensate for the inconvenience, although we completely respect your decision not to take it. We also sincerely regret that you were not able to enjoy this tour, which we organize with great care and passion to showcase the work and traditions of our artisan friends. It is normally a wonderful experience, as reflected in the many positive reviews from other travelers. We truly regret that this situation affected your day and appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving how we handle unexpected situations like these.
The studios we visited were amazing! Such a wonderful experience to learn about the art, technique and history of each workshop. We also had the opportunity to make a small clay object which was absolutely fun. David was our guide, translator and drove us all day. He was kind, attentive and knowledgable of all the artwork.
We reserved a small private tour and it was outstanding. Our guide David was very attentive and facilitated our outings. He was flexible and accoodating as my kids spent a lot of time at the Clay handscupting activity. The alebrijes stop was quite nice. The presentation was done well explaining the history. The works of art and uniques creations are breathtaking. Our final stop was with black clay pottery demonstration. The Family business was very inviting to see firsthand the intricate hand-carved pieces was a treat. One gets the sense of the energy, time, and craftsmanship to create functional art is humbling. I enjoyed the historical context and cultural aspect of this trip. We would book again.
Part of the appeal of this tour was the idea of visiting the workshops of Dona Rosa and Jacobo and Maria Angeles. While we did visit barro negro and alibrije workshops, I was disappointed that they were not the specific places listed in the original listing. The lunch stop was a gorgeous property and the food was fantastic.
Saludos!
