Naturhistorisk Museum Tour - ved Uncomfortable OxfordTM

Beskrivelse

I have done so many of the Uncomfortable Oxford and Uncomfortable Cambridge tours and cannot recommend them highly enough! I always learn so much, I love the discussion and love hearing other perspectives. It is great to see things in a different way. These tours are an absolute must when you come to Oxford.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review - and for joining us in both cities! Please do come back, we always love having community members like you.
I really enjoyed this tour— I felt it was engaging and my tour guide Peyton was so open to questions and often pushed me to think more deeply about the impacts of this kind of uncomfortable history on my own thinking. They were a welcoming wealth of knowledge, and I also enjoyed hearing about their time at the university. For what it’s worth, the museum itself is beautiful, and so even while you’re learning about some of its less savory history, you’re going to be amazed by the structures and its actual composition.
Thank you so much Laura! We're so glad you could join us and that you had a great experience with Peyton. We will be sure to pass your kind words back to them and hope you join us again on another tour soon!
We waited in the sun in the front of the museum for a tour guide, 10 minutes before our time and then for 20 minutes. They never showed. We had 3 kids and continued in after waiting. I texted the tour company. 25 minutes passed our scheduled time they texted back saying they were trying to reach us. Too late, we were tired of waiting. We expect a refund, I asked for it and hope it is given.
Dear Kelly, we are very sorry for your unfortunate experience which would have been very frustrating understandably. We messaged you at the time as the telephone number supplied was not connecting unfortunately . We are still baffled as to why your group and the guide missed each other as we were concerned you might have been at a different museum given that we continued to look for your group for over an hour. We have also offered to reschedule the tour as we would like to host your group in the future . Wishing you all the best.
Thought-provoking and informative, this tour gives you a different perspective on the British Empire I'm particular, and on colonialism in general. If you want something a bit different from th le regular tour of the sights, this is for you
Thank you! It's great to hear you enjoyed our tour!
Ffion was our guide and she was excellent. We walked with her through Oxford’s natural history museum and the Pitt rivers museums at Oxford. Then we moved on to other sites around Oxford. She delivered a lot of information in an accessible fashion. A highlight was hearing the background on the Cecil Rhodes scholarship and problems with its diversity and also with Rhodes historical attitudes toward people of color. Highly recommend for a thoughtful assessment of the virtues and the racist shortcomings of an enterprise like Oxford linked with the British Empire.
Devika was a knowledgeable and sensitive walk leader, ensuring the group stayed together and all contributed to the discussions. Terrific walking tour that I would recommend.
An excellent discussion-based tour that challenges your preconceptions of Oxford's past while also enabling you to appreciate the city's beauty through a walking tour format. Our guide was wonderful - knowledgable, engaging and well balanced between probing discussion but also respectfully facilitating discussion. The tour didn't feel like a lecture of either fact or opinion but was well mixed between revealing information and participant discussion. The discussions that are central to the tour are what really make the experience stand out as it really makes you engage with and think about what you are seeing, rather than just passively observing. I left feeling like my eyes had been opened and like I had a far deeper understanding of Oxford's true history, even as a lifelong resident of the city!
It never got too preachy, which is what I think many people are afraid of, specially when talking about these uncomfortable topics. It was always respectful, nice, and discussion based.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to leave us a review, we really appreciate your kind words !
Cameron was a very good guide and fostered interesting discussions along the way. We learned a lot and really enjoyed the tour.
very rich and informative - would strongly recommend an online tour, with great resources, a click through map and images, and well researched, presented, and interactive
Thank you very much, for your kind words! We're really glad that you joined us on the online tour and we're very glad that you enjoyed our interactive approach as well. We work really hard to make the tour engaging for participants! We would love to have you on our other tours as well :)
