My wife and I did the hiking and cultural tour with Dimitris and had an amazing time! The beautiful views from Mount Ainos were a highlight but the whole day was amazing! Dimitris was super knowledgeable, very fun and took some fantastic photos for us. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kefalonia.
We had a wonderful day out full of adventure, amazing sights, and beautiful experiences. We were picked up from our villa by a lovely man called Dimitris and travelled in a spacious, air-conditioned car for the day. From the get-go, Dimitris was a fountain of knowledge telling us funny stories as well as giving us insightful historical background to the sights we were seeing. Firstly, we went to the Sacred Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, which was a moving and wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to witness the unveiling of the saint, and be part of a very special ritual. We visited his "hermit" cave, and Dimitris explained the history and beliefs. We felt very privileged to be part of it. Next, we drove up Mount Ainos - that was spectacular, seeing parts of the island we never knew existed. The sights were incredible, and what a relaxing way to get to the top of a mountain! We then we moved on to the "ghost village" of Old Vlachata - ruined by the earthquake of 1953, which was full of history and life (no one died here but everyone relocated meaning it was left as a ruin). It was magical, and Dimitris knew so much about how life would have been before the earthquake in a village like this one. It was fascinating. Finally we were driven to a vineyard for wine tasting, which was a superb way to finish a wonderful day out. Kefalonian wine is amazing. Throughout, Dimitris was willing to adapt our route and schedule to make the day perfect for us, he took lots of photos of us too, ensuring we had great mementos of a very special day. I couldn't recommend this highly personalised tour enough.

We booked the private Mount Ainos hike specifically to focus on the mountain itself, and Panos delivered exactly what we hoped for and more. He was an outstanding guide – good-humoured, calm, friendly, and patient with all of our (many!) questions. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was incredible, and it was obvious how proud he is to be Kefalonian and how deeply connected he is to the mountain. We felt safe the entire time, and Panos chose the best routes to make the most of the scenery and the experience. The views from the summit were absolutely breathtaking – you can see Zakynthos, Ithaca, the mainland, and the full beauty of Kefalonia spread out beneath you. So many tours on the island focus on the same well-known spots, which are all lovely, but Mount Ainos often gets overlooked. It shouldn’t. This hike was genuinely the highlight of our holiday, and I would recommend it to anyone. Put this tour at the top of your list.
