Overall a good experience; - we went in April and the water was still quite warm making swimming and beach going quite pleasant. - saw a decent variety fish while snorkelling the wrecks, although the coral is not a vibrant in colour compared to northern QLD. Did see dolphins and manatees as well - convenient location for anyone of the northside of Brisbane. I believe this is the only tour operating from Newport. - the bar offered a variety of tropical cocktails which were tasty. The negatives: - felt a bit rushed; you are only snorkelling for about 45 minutes of the 8 hour tour. We were in the middle snorkell group as well which meant we had 45 minutes either side of swim time which didn't feel enough to use productively - To call it an 'eco safari' seemed a bit of stretch to me. Yes, we saw a podcast of dolphins (which by account is not common), but the commentary was hard to hear so missed most information. - the currents were particularly strong the day we went, so many people made unintentional contact with the coral / rusty wrecks which resulted in many cuts requiring first aid - be warned! Worth doing once but would go unguided next time.
Really amazing value, we had a blast! Thanks too the family run Dolphin Wild Island Cruise.
Awesome tour with a great crew and captain... the amount of fish on the snorkel was unbeatable and the beach was beautiful... lunch was on point and coffee/water/biscuits always available... was able to encounter several dugongs and turtles.... great day overall... special thanks to Grace, as our snorkel guide and Mick for being a great captain.. Highly recommend to all ages
We had an incredible time with Dolphin Wild Island Cruises on Moreton Island. The snorkeling was absolutely amazing — in small groups we navigated through the reef built out of scuttled ships through clear water and saw beautiful coral, an eel and tons of unique fish. We were also able to see green turtles, a dugong and dolphins. The crew - Grace, Lily, Mick, Stan, Jake and Jade were both fun and knowledgeable, and the island itself is stunning. One of the highlights of our Australia trip. Highly recommend!
Excellent service across the board. Crew were attentive and engaging. Food was great. Snorkeling was amazing. All the little touches like the QR codes, games on the beach made it an experience to remember. Grace was amazing
The whole day was fantastic. Friendly crew who went out of their way to assist in all matters, extremely knowledgeable about the marine life and environment of Moreton Island, healthy lunch, and a comfortable transfer to and from the island. Highly recommend.
Our snorkelling trip yesterday went above and beyond our expectations! Grace, Jake and Mick were excellent hosts and great at making cocktails! Having drinks delivered to you on the beach by someone in the tender while you have a mini tournament of cornhole was next level service and we were living our best below deck lives. The snorkelling through the wrecks was spectacular and was so much fun having someone so knowledgeable and experienced guide us through and find cool things to show us. We couldn’t believe the abundance of life that we saw, way more fish than we’ve ever seen on other reef trips. It really was such a wonderful day and would recommend to anyone!! Might even have to go again sometime 😁
Thanks so much for the 5 stars! Stoked to hear your day exceeded expectations! It’s great to know Grace, Jake and Mick helped make the experience so memorable (legends) — from the beach service and cocktails to the guided snorkelling through the wrecks. We love hearing how much marine life you saw and that the whole day felt special from start to finish. Thanks so much for the recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back again sometime.
The staff was extremely organized. They welcomed us with a smile. They shared upcoming events and safety rules. Awesome crew, very knowledgeable about ocean and protected coral.
Thank you for the great review! Our crew takes a lot of pride in being organised, welcoming, and sharing their knowledge of the ocean. We are all ocean mad. We’re glad you felt well looked after and enjoyed learning along the way. Hope to see you back onboard for another adventure soon.
I recently went on the Dolphin Wild Eco Tour with my husband and had a truly marvellous day. It was such a well organised trip that offered the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. The wildlife sightings were a major highlight! We saw such a variety of fish and a sea Eagle! We were lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins that came right up to the boat as well as a massive bait ball of fish! The crew’s knowledge of the local ecosystem was very impressive. The snorkelling trip was a fantastic all round experience, the water was clear whilst snorkelling and the marine life up close was so cool. To top it all off, enjoying cocktails on the beach at Moreton Island was perfect! The lunch provided was fresh and delicious, as a vegetarian I felt the crew went out of their way to ensure I was looked after as well. I couldn't have asked for a better day out on the water. Highly recommended!
Stoked to hear you and your husband had an awesome day out! Sounds like you got the full Moreton experience — dolphins up close, massive bait balls, sea eagles, and heaps of fish while snorkelling in crystal-clear water. Glad the crew looked after you (vegetarian-friendly lunch included!) and that the cocktails on the beach were the cherry on top. Thanks for the shout-out, and we’d love to have you back for another adventure soon!
Moreton Island is a 5-star destination, but this specific tour was a disaster due to the Captain’s complete lack of organization and professionalism. While the crew seemed to be doing their best to follow orders, the leadership at the top made the experience stressful and frustrating. Our issues began with a strange booking discrepancy. We paid for 5 people (3 adults, 2 kids), but only 3 of us snorkeled. When I asked the Captain to use one of my own unused, paid-for slots, he flatly refused, claiming the boat was "fully booked." This is highly concerning—it suggests that had my entire family chosen to snorkel, the Captain would not have had the space or equipment to accommodate a booking he had already accepted. The worst part of the day was being abandoned. After snorkeling at 11:00 AM, the Captain had us dropped on a beach and seemingly forgot about us. We sat there for an hour with no food or water, watching the tender and jet ski ferry other groups around under the Captain’s direction. By 12:45 PM, my children were starving. I finally had to swim back to the boat myself just to get the Captain’s attention. Rather than taking responsibility for the oversight, the Captain was incredibly rude, blaming me for "not being patient" and telling me they were busy. His attitude was unacceptable; when we finally got back to the boat, the crew was already throwing lunch into the trash. If I hadn’t swam out to intervene, the Captain’s poor scheduling would have left my family with nothing to eat. The location is beautiful, but I cannot recommend a tour where the person in charge shows such a blatant disregard for guest safety and basic courtesy.
We’re sorry to hear that this experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few points, as some details in this review are not accurate. Our snorkelling tours are conducted strictly in accordance with Queensland Maritime Safety regulations. Children under the age of 6 are not legally permitted to snorkel, a requirement that is clearly outlined in our terms and conditions and is verbally reiterated prior to snorkelling group allocations. Children's ages are confirmed at this time, and this would have been the appropriate opportunity to raise any questions regarding snorkelling participation. Child tickets are priced at a significantly reduced rate, and children aged 0–3 travel free. This reflects that younger children may not be eligible to participate in snorkelling activities. As per safety regulations, children cannot be left on board unattended and must be accompanied by an adult. This means that multiple snorkelling time slots were allocated to the 3 adults in your party. Knowing that the children were unable to participate, any request for an additional snorkel session could have been raised at the time of snorkel group allocation. Snorkel groups are organised during the journey to the island to allow the Captain and crew sufficient time to plan a safe, well-structured snorkel experience. This planning considers age, medical conditions and swimming ability. All snorkelling is fully guided, with a maximum ratio of 1 guide to 10 guests, in line with Maritime Safety regulations, and we carry ample snorkelling equipment onboard. Once groups are finalised, additional snorkelling sessions cannot be added later in the day without compromising safety or permit conditions. We would also like to clarify that we do not overbook our vessels. We operate well under our permitted guest numbers to ensure the safety, enjoyment and comfort of all guests onboard. The statement that the tour was “fully booked” relates specifically to pre-planned snorkelling group allocations and guide ratios, not overall vessel capacity. Lunch times are clearly outlined on itinerary sheets displayed throughout the vessel and are also communicated by crew during the day. Guests returning from the beach are asked to wait in front of our designated beach cabanas, which is our standard and clearly explained pickup location. We were particularly surprised by the comments regarding our Captain, as they do not reflect his long-standing professional reputation. He is a highly experienced and well-regarded Captain who consistently receives positive feedback for his professionalism, care and approachable manner. We understand that experiences can be perceived differently, especially on busy adventure-based tours. However, we are confident that this tour was operated safely, professionally and in full compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements. Other guests on the same departure have also shared positive feedback.
