Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour

We had a wonderful time on this tour. The glacier scenery was gorgeous, but what truly made the trip exceptional was our guide, Lori. She was attentive, helpful, and ensured everything ran smoothly. We would definitely book again!

We really enjoyed this tour. Lori picked us up at our hotel on time, the van was clean, and she had all the mom things ready (water, snacks, tissues). She told us a bit about the area and the surrounding landscape. She was super friendly. We had 10 in our group, which is a good number. The tour on the glacier was lead by Lana. She did a fantastic job of explaining the area and history of the glacier. She made sure to warn us about potential dangers and worked to keep us safe. The glacier itself is incredible. We didn’t realize it was so big! She led us all around so we could see it from all angles and get some great photos. We would definitely recommend this tour!

Had fun, learned a lot! Rina is a great host who knows the Alaskan culture inside out. We enjoyed walking on glaciers and we also loved hearing from Rina about life, culture and economy of Alaska on our way there. She is knowledgeable, communicative and very very kind. The glacier hike is definitely worth checking out

Hiking the glacier was a really cool and unique experience. The glacier was beautiful and the surroundings felt other-worldly. Rina and Madeline were great guides. It was the perfect day excursion from Anchorage.

Lori was phenomenal! The day hike on the glacier was everything we hoped for and more. Such a welcoming experience and we learned so much about Alaska too! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience and to support a wonderful small business!

Rina did a great job taking care of everyone during the trip - she is hardworking, knowledgeable, easygoing, and paying attention to details.

I didn’t get the chance to go on the tour, my flight got cancelled and I wasn’t able to make it. I reached out to the operator less that 24 hours before my tour starts and explained the situation, the operator was super friendly and helpful, I got refunded. I’ll rebook my trip to Alaska and rebook with the same company for sure. Highly recommended!

Amazing hike in the glacier. Our tour guide Laina was terrific and made the experience memorable. We were lucky enough to see an iceberg flip out of the water. We felt safe the entire trip. Weather was a huge plus- it was sunny and in the 70’s, but the hike would have been enjoyable even in poor weather. The drive from Anchorage was long though and 12 of us we were stuffed into a van for the ride. Unfortunately, our family of 4 adults were picked up last and were stuck in the only remaining seats in the very back of the van - the tour company should do better on that aspect. We rated high because the hike was so good. There is a lunch - not included in the tour price- at Long Rifle Lodge - the views were fantastic- the food was not good. If you have a car, I recommend booking the hike separately and drive yourself there. The driver was nice enough, but frankly did not provide that much historical/ local information that made his presence necessary.

I read a lot of reviews and compared a lot of companies when planning my trip and I feel I chose the right group when I booked with 907! As a solo traveler without a rental car, the hotel pick up and drop off was so wonderful for me. Our guide/driver Scott was fun and friendly, and wasn’t discouraged by the fact that the group wasn’t particularly chatty. You can tell he enjoys what he’s doing and really likes introducing tourists to the wonders of Alaska. He did a wonderful job of giving us a good idea of how the day would go and was mindful of making sure we knew when the next opportunity for a bathroom would be. There were snacks and waters in the van for us too. Some of the negative reviews mention the long drive. I think it’s unfair to dock the tour operator points for this! Yes, it was a long drive and yes, the process of the hotel pickup and drop off do make it longer. But people, please - do your due diligence and know what you’re signing up for. Anybody with a map can see that the glacier isn’t just a hop and a skip from Anchorage. I will say… if you haven’t chosen a season for your trip, and your heart is set on seeing what’s in some of the photos, don’t come during the warmest part of summer. As awe inspiring as the glacier is, I suspect it’s far more breathtaking when covered in snow. If walking on a glacier is on your bucket list, sign up for this tour! Don’t be worried about the long drive. It’s a great chance to make new friends with your fellow tour goers!
