I denne dagstur fra Chennai, vil vi besøge de to vidundere af Pallava arkitektur, Mahabalipuram og Kanchipuram. Denne tur er vært for en Five Senses Tours som er et firma godkendt af ministeriet for turisme og er også medlem af den prestigefyldte indiske forening af turoperatører. Vi vil dække de storslåede templer i Ekambareswar & Kailashnath i Kanchipuram. Derefter besøger vi den gamle havn Mahabalipuram og besøger de legendariske klippestrukturer ligger Arjuna's penance, Five Rathas og det ikoniske Shore tempel, der bogstaveligt talt tjente som fyrtårnet for søfarere fra det 8. århundrede og videre. Vi besøger Ekambareswarar i Pallava-dynastiet for at værdsætte disse gamle arkitektoniske vidundere. Disse blev bygget i 600 e.Kr. og er storslåede eksemplarer af Pallava stil arkitektur.
Vi vil besøge det fantastiske tempel Kailasanathar-templet fra Pallava-tiderne. Kanchipuram var hovedstaden i det middelalderlige sydlige indiske kongerige Pallavas. Pallavas var medvirkende til overgangen fra rock-cut arkitektur til sten templer. Vi vil sætte pris på disse arkitektoniske vidundere bygget i 600 e.Kr.
Mahabalipuram er en gammel by og var kendt for at være et handelsposter under Roman Times. Det steg til fremtrædende som en travl havn under reglen om Pallava-dynastiet med hovedkvarter i Kanchipuram i det 7. århundrede e.Kr. Skibe, der sejlede fra Sydindien til Sydøstasien plejede at afvige fra Mahabalipuram havnen. Panch Rathas, eller de 5 vogne er vores første destination. Disse er stenskårne monolitiske templer, der er dedikeret til Draupadi og de 5 Pandavas fra den episke Mahabharata.
Vi besøger også Arjuna's Penance, en 100 fod x 45 fod bas relief, hvor et helt mesterværk fra Mahabharata epic er blevet udskåret.
Den næste stop er ved Krishna's Butterball, et nysgerrigt syn på en 5 meter diameter kugleformet klodser, som ligger højt på en skråning og tåler Newtons tyngdekrav!
Den legendariske Marco Polo henviste til Mahabalipuram som byen 7 pagoder. Shore tempelet er den eneste 1 af de storslåede 7 templer, som har overlevet tidens hærgen. Magnificent Shore-templet vinker os. Dette strukturelle tempel fra det 8. århundrede er lavet af granit og tjent som et fyrtårn for havets farere.

Tour Guide Jainath and driver Mahendran arrived early to Hotel with a comfortable AC transport Car. Tour Guide extremely Knowledgeable of Historical Sites and was able to properly answer all questions I had. Driver was safe. I would Highly recommended tour if short on time and want a grand experience of Ancient Temples. Great Value and a wonderful lunch was included….. Two Thumbs Up
An absolutely wonderful experience with Hareesh guiding me all day through many temples and historical sites. My first day ever in India became a day to remember with the insights, friendliness, and warmth of a guide who truly loves what he is doing. Super exciting sights, excellent lunch, and knowledge of Indian history and religion to the fullest.
Kannan is an excellent guide! He took the time to explain the highlights in a succinct and informative manner. Great sense of humor and very flexible.
We had an excellent day exploring these two amazing places with Jainath and his local guides. Both were knowledgeable and passionate about the history. There was time to examine each place and appreciate the history and culture in them. Highly recommended the day. The driver was excellent as well, getting us between sites in the busy traffic. The trip could be improved by using a larger more comfortable car for such a long day.
Five Senses is a great tour company putting focus on the local community. Our guide Jainath was very knowledgeable and friendly and we had a very good time! Not only he showed us the wonders of Kanchipuram and neighborhood town Mahabalipuram, but also got us in touch with the local people who take pride in their work and culture. We also learnt a lot about eating manners to have during a wedding (we are attending one in 2 days). Overall we got a great impression lf history, architecture and culture in only one day!! Highly recommended.
We had a great time with our guide Jainath. He was very knowledgeable and gave us a good feeling for the South Indian culture and his eye for architecture was impeccable. He even invited us for a quick coffee and breakfast!

Fantastic tour. Many historical places and ancient temples to see. We have learned so much about temples, depictions of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Definitely recommend.

We had an excellent experience on the Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram day trip from Chennai with Five Senses Tours, and I would highly recommend it. The itinerary itself is very well structured, covering the key highlights in both Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram, including the temples and the UNESCO heritage sites such as the Shore Temple and the rock carvings. Kannan’s explanations added real depth and context, which made the visit much more meaningful. The private car setup also makes a big difference. It is comfortable, efficient, and allows you to enjoy the day at your own pace without feeling rushed. Overall, this is one of the best ways to explore the cultural and historical richness around Chennai in a single day.
