We were running late due to rain and our guide waited for us and extended our time. He was articulate and he was knowledgeable. Even passionate , about Leon.
This was an excellent tour with amazing photo opportunities. Our tour guide, Alex was fantastic; great energy, humourous and knowledgeable. He also saved us from pontential pick-pockets on a couple of occassions, so very thoughtful and concerned about our well being. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Alex!! Merci beaucoup Alex!!
In a few pre-arrival emails, Alex had everything set up. He was quick to respond and patient with my vague description of what I was looking for. As a tour guide in Rome, returning to Lyon for the first time since I studied History there many years ago, my expectations were quite high. I opted for the 4-hour private Panoramic Tour, with the request that it be tailored to my interests and experience. That is precisely what Alex provided. He arrived punctually at the agreed meeting place and greeted we with a smile, an extended hand, and a bit of cheeky humor. He laid out the plan for the day, gave a general introduction to the development of the city over time, and a history of where we were standing (the impressive Place Bellecour) before leading me straight to what he touted as the best croissant in the city. And of course he was right. After that, he had me eating out of his hand. For the next 4 hours, Alex regaled me with histories, stories, anecdotes, perceptive observations, and clever commentary, reflecting the keen mind and the quick wit of a highly educated man with a life well lived in the city he loves and calls home. The balance of tone between the preparation of a consummate professional and the affability of a born performer was pitch perfect. I was informed, amused, and entertained. By the end of our time together, I had not only seen things and heard stories but met some of his colleagues, associates and friends. My half-day with Alex was time and money well spent, and it set me up perfectly for the rest of my stay in Lyon. No drawbacks, no exceptions, no other side of the coin: Alex with New Generation Guides is the man to go to in Lyon.
It is hard to find a local guide with the right amount of knowledge both historical & practical, who tailors your experience to precisely what you want to see & do-even adjusting during your tour, and who does it all with a grand sense of humor & fun…..BUT this is Alex! Our group of 4 couples completely enjoyed our Lyon City tour AND then a Food tour with him, and we wish we could go again now! He took us by funicular to Fourviere where he showed the panoramic views & explained the history, then down the hill at our pace through Roman ruins on a Roman road, then through many Traboules in Old Lyon pointing out sights & always explaining the history, culture, and lore of the sights. The next day we enjoyed fabulous local foods at Les Halles & shops in Old Lyon, a fascinating silk tour where they showed us the old process from wiggly worms to beautiful scarves. We then finished with a fancy chartreuse and local confectionary tasting to see if we could identify the flavors of the products…a fun education for us and our palates! We laughed so hard at what friends would taste. As both a guide and local professor for training guides, Alex has a true knowledge and love of Lyon & its food/culture/history and his tours will make you love it all too! So no worries about getting around at too fast or slow pace by a mechanical guide who shows you all the sights they love but not you, and no tasting adventurous organ meat foods, unless you want them! And no mysterious silence while planning your adventure far away—Communication is quick, helpful (esp with changing Covid restrictions) and fun. We cannot recommend him enough! It is all simply fun, tasty and wonderfully done! Relax and enjoy the times! You will come away loving the city and your guide!
