Seriously, if you are...

Seriously, if you are going to do one thing in Mexico City, make it this Lucha Libre experience and make sure you get Arturo as your guide. The man knows everything about Lucha Libre. The history, the fighters, the traditions, the culture. He shared it all in a way that was genuinely fun and easy to follow, and our whole group was totally hooked from start to finish. The mezcal tasting was such a great touch. Arturo and the team took us through each one and explained where it came from, how it was made, and what to look for in the flavor. It felt like learning from someone who truly loves what he does, not just running through a script. Our kids had an absolute blast. Arturo was so warm and patient with them and made sure they were part of the whole experience. Watching their faces light up in that arena was one of those moments you just do not forget. If you are on the fence, just book it. We could not recommend Arturo and this tour more highly 🎉

Worth the cost

So much fun! I am not at all into watching wrestling, but this was such a great experience. Arturo, a former wrestler, was a fantastic guide and gave us lots of background information about Luche Libre. Before the wrestling matches: - tour starts of tasting different types of mezcal (with some snacks)--there is non-alcoholic drinks available for kids or those who don't drink alcohol - we spent about 45 min. - 1 hr. at the mezcal tasting place at a sit-down table, so you can rest your feet. - bathrooms available at the tasting place - we walked around and paused occasionally for short stints so Arturo could give us more information - we got to choose a lucha libre mask At the arena: - Arturo took us through a secondary entrance, so we avoided crowds completely - due to our timing, we got to take a photo with one of the wrestlers who was in this area - our seats were great! We had such a nice view and were close to bathrooms and the snack bar During the matches: - gotta love the crowd here--very enthusiastic Afterwards: - Again, Arturo took us through an exit that others were not going through, and found us an easy spot right by the arena to call an Uber. - He waited until the last person got picked up by an Uber to ensure our safety. Overall: - Totally worth taking this tour and learning about the history of Lucha Libre!

Don't miss!

Arturo was such an amazing host and this night was one of the highlights of our trip. He had tons of insight as an ex luchador and made sure all of us had a great time!

Run, do not walk, to book this tour

If I could give this tour 6 stars, I would! My friend & I booked this on a whim and it turned out to be our favorite activity of the trip! Arturo was absolutely the best— engaging, informative, funny, & organized. His personal experience in lucha libre was such a cool perspective. He also gave us some great food recommendations and stayed with us until our ride came to pick us up after the event. I didn’t know anything about lucha libre before this tour, and we left feeling so impressed with the history & athleticism of the sport. If you’re on the fence about this experience, just book it. You won’t regret it.

Great time!

Fun night! Mezcal tasting was very informative and tasty. But Arturo was the highlight. An ex-wrestler himself, he has great insights into the show! A must-do in CDMX!

A great night at the Arena México

Arturo our guide was fabulous; knowledgeable and entertaining. He also brought his own experience as a former “luchador”

Getting a guide to tell you the nuance and translate the insults makes all the difference

I was surprised how much more we were able to enjoy Lucha Libre with a guide who explained it so much to us. Arturo is an ex-wrestler so he could really explain the finer details of what we were seeing. He was able to translate the insults coming from the fans around us. We learned some new Spanish curse words in the process. I started to appreciate the athleticism of these performers. While there's lot of "performance" in the show, you do start to get sucked in. Even the arena was very impressive.

A Great Tourist Attraction

I have been a wrestling fan (though I’m lapsed now) for several years and going to an Arena Mexico show has been a bucket list goal for me for years. My husband is not a fan of wrestling nor is he interested in it at all. When we decided to spend part of our honeymoon in Mexico City, this was the one thing that I was adamant about doing. We were in a group of five people with Arturo as the tour guide. I was the only person that was at all familiar with wrestling. The mezcal tasting was fun. I had never had mezcal before (it’s kind of a smokier tequila), so it was new for me. There were a few different types we tasted and they ranged from ok to great. I liked it enough to try mezcal drinks elsewhere. The guacamole was really good too. There was a gentleman that would give some details about each mezcal (age, taste, how it’s made, and so forth) in Spanish and Arturo would translate to English. You can also try the grasshoppers if you want a more authentic experience. The show was a lot of fun. If you are not familiar, Arena Mexico might be the most iconic wrestling venue in the world (the other options are in Japan, nothing in any English-speaking country comes close). Lucha is probably the most non-wrestling-fan friendly wrestling there is (the moves are generally acrobatic and the crowd is lively without being obnoxious). Arena Mexico holds around 15,000 people and the Friday show usually sells out, so if you’re a fan that isn’t in the area of the arena and/or with limited Spanish proficiency, this is probably the easiest way to make sure you get tickets and can navigate the arena. My first recommendation is to go to the Friday show if you can. The Friday show is the main show. The other shows are secondary. If you are interested in the card, it is usually out on social media by Wednesday. Make sure to grab some food before the show. The meet up spot is very close to a bunch of street vendors, so grab some tacos, a torta, or elotes. Expect about 2-3 drinks worth of mezcal before walking to the show (though you can obviously refuse a drink). It’s maybe a mile walk, so be careful about drinking too much. At the show, there are vendors selling snacks and beer, and they’re very attentive if you need anything. Arturo made sure everyone was safe at all times, which is great because it’s in a less nice neighborhood in Mexico City. Most importantly, you do not need to be a fan to enjoy the show. Arturo explained everything that was necessary (without the torrent of details wrestling fans are known to give). The Arena Mexico show, particularly the Friday show, is basically designed to be tourist-friendly. It is very traditional lucha libre (2 of 3 falls; no hardcore matches; little to no wrestling chicanery, especially compared to other Mexican promotions). If you’re an American fan, leaving the ring counts as a tag (generally…it’s wrestling), so don’t always expect tags in a tag match. I think everyone had a really good time. I know my husband was shocked at how much fun he had. For me, it was one of my favorite shows ever and my favorite for reasons outside of the matches (although I thought the main event we saw was great).
