Learning to row in Venice turned into one of those unexpectedly magical afternoons. The lesson was meant for my two teenage granddaughters, but before long all five of us, all women, were taking turns at the oars, laughing and cheering each other on. A group of university friends had bought a traditional long boat together and now spend their days teaching others how to row standing up. They were warm, patient, and wonderfully knowledgeable — the kind of instructors who make you feel capable from the moment you step aboard. My granddaughters started out a little hesitant, but the instructors’ easy humor and encouragement quickly melted that away. Soon they were grinning, determined, and completely in the moment. We glided through quiet, tucked away canals far from the bustle of the Grand Canal, feeling like we’d slipped into a secret side of Venice. It was peaceful, fun, and absolutely delightful. We’d book it again in a heartbeat.
Fun experience and a great way to see a different part of the city. Its also nice to learn about Venetian culture by getting on the water in the canals
This experience was phenomenal. Stefano, the guide, was wonderful. We briefly learned about the structure and history of gondolas, and then set out to a canal to learn to row. Rowing through the canals gave the peaceful, beautiful experience of riding a gondola through Venice, with the added bonus of a hands on activity. Neither the kids nor the adults will ever forget it.
Our family had a fantastic time learning how to row like a gondolier. The canals were small, quiet and quaint
What a fun way to learn more about Venice! Stefano was very kind and patient (rowing is harder than it looks, for me anyways, my kids picked it up fast!). We learned about the history of why the boats are flat bottomed and why the gondoliers stand up. It was so peaceful and beautiful in the canals in the residential district. Highly recommend! My kids absolutely loved it! (11, 8&6)
What an incredible experience, especially with kids! We learned a lot about the history of Venetian Rowing and our kids, age 7&9, had so much fun! A real highlight of our trip to Venice.
We loved our time learning to row- it was a highlight of our two days in Venice! Our instructor was so kind and answered so many questions we had about the history of rowing in Venice. I definitely recommend!
What a wonderful experience on the canals of Venice. We had a wonderful guide that shared the history of the old world boats and Venice canals.....i think his name was Stefano. Thank you for a great lesson. We originally booked for a day that ended up being rainy and windy but we were offered some alternative times for the following day. Luckily it worked out well and it turned out to be beautiful weather. I highly recommend booking with Venice on Board.
Lovely experience with Emi who is passionate about what he does. Peaceful row around the canals and a great way to see the city thank you! Sara and Stell
Emiliano, was great teacher and showed us some beautiful, tranquil parts of Venice canals. Highly recommend.
