Kecak og Fire Dance Billet ved Uluwatu Temple

The show was great. Spiritual, humours. Costumes amazing. Wouldn’t be enjoyable if you are claustrophobic though,- a lot of people in a small area and no real exit until the end. Use bathroom prior to show. Be careful of the monkeys.

The space is overcrowded. The monkeys are terrorizing people, grabbing glasses, cell phones, food... it's dirty. The dance is not worth it. Incredibly unsafe.

Usually I’m positive about these excursions, but this felt like a big tourist money making scheme and overall the show was average - definitely not worth the time waiting or effort getting there. Also over crowded with tourists. Waiting for hours in cue with little direction despite getting online tickets. Regular monkey attacks of guests and guests screaming with monkeys jumping on them to crab glasses phones or hats they wanted! Dry hot no shade no shop or free drink facilities, poor crowd control with people pushing in or getting inpatient. We left early so we wouldn’t get stuck in the crowd trying to get out. Give it a miss! Spend the day by the pool or in the beach instead!!

Thiis a great show. We remembered seeing a Kecek dance 30yrs ago in Bali and being blown away. This performace was excellent and engaging. The cliff top view, the sunset and the boom of the occasional breaker all add to the atmosphere. We booked our tickets in advance for the 1800 show so that we could have the benefit of the sunset. Things to note, 1. The traffic is very busy in that area. It took us 1hr taxi from Kempinski 2. You Kecek ticket does not get you access to the temple. You need this to get to the dance. It was 60k IRD, this cannot be pre-booked. It's cash only and straight forwards. 3. Dress code is a sarong, these are provided free of charge. 4. Reserved seating, there is non I could see, first in first choice. 5. Advance ticket collection, there is a big queue, the ticket booth is by the amphitheatre inside the temple. We were told we could collect from 5pm. But there was already a long queue. Our performance was max capacity. Pre book! 6. It's first come first seated. Gates open at about 5:15pm, then its grab a seat. Seats are concrete, tightly packed benches. If you can, take a foam cushion. You are going to be sat for 90mins min. 7. Its hot with the sun facing you. Take sun precautions, free water is provided, but not very obvious. Just ask. 8. When its all over, 1000 people try and exit, allow plenty of time if you have dinner plans.

Really annoyed that I had booked months in advance but my booking was cancelled 2 days before because "my card declined." I had changed cards since booking but did not get appropriate notification and time to rectify before the booking was cancelled. Had to book a last minute "tour" plus ticket which was more expensive. When I reached out to the operator on whatsapp they were unhelpful.

It is a nice experience, there are people there but honestly everything was flowing and I expected much worse. There are also many Indonesians. To appreciate it, you must first read the story of Rama and Sita (tell it to the children) and there, before entering, there are sheets in various languages (ask for it, it is also available in Italian) that explain the various scenes. At times, towards the end, it was even fun!

Great location, but it feels more like a ticket business than a cultural site Only go for the first show. That's the one where you can still see the ocean and the sunset behind the dancers — that backdrop is the entire reason to come to Uluwatu specifically instead of watching a Kecak performance anywhere else in Bali. The second show happens after dark, so the ocean view is gone and all you're left with is a fire dance you could watch in any generic venue — nothing about it is tied to this specific cliff or temple. The real letdown, though, is the ticketing. It doesn't feel like a temple managing its own cultural show — it feels like a business, with people hovering around outside the official booth who clearly aren't temple staff, offering to "help" you get tickets or a better seat. Prices felt inconsistent depending on who you talked to at the moment. The whole setup gives off a strong middleman vibe, like the line itself is being worked by people taking a cut rather than the temple selling its own tickets. Advice: only bother with the sunset (first) show, and don't buy from anyone hovering around outside the official booth — book ahead through an official channel so you're not negotiating with a stranger for your ticket.

All the rhythm and atmosphere are created by a group of about thirty men (kecake, the monkeys) arranged in a circle around the stage. This atmosphere, the tiered seating with the ocean in the background, the masked actors, give the impression of attending a show from ancient Greece. The explanations of the final scenes with the demons are missing from the brochure written in French. Watch out, the monkeys really do steal glasses! Hold onto them tightly...

Excellent show about the history and culture

They sell more tickets than seats. The special man shoves everyone in tight to make more room. Some are sitting on the floor, some are standing. The show is not particularly visible, but it is very peculiar because of the sounds. Left after 25 minutes.
