Hvis du skal besøge Istanbul for første gang, vil denne kulturelle og kulinariske vandretur i Istanbul give dig detaljerede oplysninger om, hvad jeg kan kalde "Essentials of Istanbul Experience". Vi vil besøge nogle af de mest berømte vartegn i Istanbul, forstå deres historiske, arkitektoniske og sociale betydning. Vi vil også prøve nogle lokale fødevarer, herunder (alles favorit) tyrkiske desserter. Jeg vil forklare mine gæster nogle af de mindre kendte og lidt bemærkede detaljer for hvert websted. Oplevelsen kan skræddersyes med konsensus fra alle deltagere.

Engang en del af Topkapi-paladset, er denne afslappende og smukke offentlige park mere end et rekreativt område. Dette område spillede en meget afgørende rolle i Istanbuls, men også den tyrkiske republiks historie. I april er det fyldt med tulipaner. I maj erstatter roser tulipaner. Hver sæson ser den fantastisk ud på sin egen måde.
Den første af sin slags, Sultan Ahmed-fontænen foran Topkapi-paladset, er et elegant monument i sig selv. Omgivet af Topkapi-paladset og Hagia Sophia får denne springvand sjældent den opmærksomhed, den fortjener. Vi vil undersøge dens tulipan-periode ornamenter med en særlig opmærksomhed og forstå dens indvirkning på byen.
Yerebatan (Basilica) Cistern er en romersk vandstruktur fra det 6. århundrede og den største af sin art i Istanbul. Med endeløse rækker af kolonner har den et unikt udseende. Det betragtes som en topseværdighed i Istanbul. Der kan være 30 minutters ventetid på travle dage.
Dette mesterværk af osmannisk arkitektur fra det 17. århundrede er en af de største seværdigheder i Istanbul. Dens interiør er et af de mest glamourøse eksempler på osmanniske moskeer. Det er dekoreret med tusindvis af fliser og omfattende penwork. Fra dens ydre gårdhave til de indre hjørner giver denne moske flere elegante eksempler på den tyrkiske kunstneriske smag fra det 17. århundrede.
Sultanahmet-pladsen er den gamle romerske Hippodrome og rummer nogle af Istanbuls ældste og vigtigste seværdigheder. Den egyptiske obelisk, slangesøjlen, frimurerobelisken og den tyske springvand er blandt disse seværdigheder. Hver af dem har sine egne fascinerende historier og ikke-lette at lægge mærke til aspekter, som jeg med glæde vil dele under vores besøg.
Hagia Sophia-moskeen i Istanbul er et af verdensarkitekturens mesterværker og er på UNESCOs verdensarvsliste. Denne bygning fra det 6. århundrede indeholder kunstneriske genstande og arkitektoniske træk fra de romerske, byzantinske og osmanniske civilisationer. Det er et must-see i Istanbul, men af den grund er der lange køer, som kan resultere i 1-2 timers ventetid. (Hvis mine gæster foretrækker kun at se bygningen udefra for ikke at vente i en lang kø, kan en alternativ destination tilføjes)
Som en nøgleby på Silkevejen og Krydderivejen kan Istanbul prale af tilstedeværelsen af nogle af de bedste middelalderbasarer i verden. Den store basar og den egyptiske (krydderi)basar er stadig nogle af de mest livlige kommercielle bygninger i Istanbul. Afhængigt af mine gæsters personlige præferencer, kan vi besøge en eller begge af dem. Grand Bazaar er lukket om søndagen.
Selvom Blue Mosque er den mest besøgte osmanniske moske i Istanbul på grund af dens beliggenhed i hjertet af den gamle bydel, er flere andre moskeer værd at besøge på grund af deres historiske betydning og arkitektoniske aspekter. Især Beyazit-moskeen indeholder meget interessante funktioner, som er unikke i Istanbul. Vi vil tage et kig på dens farverige udsmykning dateret 1505.

Istanbul is an incredible city on its own, but exploring it with Unsal made the experience unforgettable. From the moment our tour began, he brought every site to life with his deep knowledge, engaging stories, and genuine passion for the city’s history and culture. He guided us through iconic landmarks including the Blue Mosque, Ayasofya, the Grand Bazaar, and even the atmospheric underground Basilica Cistern—famous for its appearance in the James Bond film From Russia with Love. At each stop, Unsal shared detailed insights that helped us appreciate not just what we were seeing, but the centuries of history behind it. What made the day even more special were the thoughtful touches he added along the way. He led us to a beautiful courtyard café for a relaxing break, and later to a traditional restaurant where we enjoyed an authentic Turkish lunch—places we never would have found on our own. Unsal was friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. His storytelling made the city’s past feel vivid and alive, and his enthusiasm was infectious. If you’re visiting Istanbul and want a guide who truly elevates the experience, I can’t recommend Unsal highly enough.
Our tour of Topkapi Palace was unforgettable, entirely thanks to our incredibly knowledgeable and humorous guide. He brought the Ottoman Empire to life with fascinating details on art, architecture, and court life that we would have otherwise missed. We loved how personalized the tour was; he tailored it to our interests, walked at our pace, and enhanced the storytelling with historical documents and photos. His care extended well beyond the tour itself, he gave us an authentic local restaurant recommendation and even helped us navigate the area afterward to shop. I truly believe there is no better guide in Istanbul!
Our tour of Topkapi Palace was absolutely exceptional, and it was entirely thanks to our guide, Unsal. He was incredibly knowledgeable and had an amazing sense of humor that kept the experience engaging from beginning to end. What truly stood out was the depth of detail he shared — things I would have completely missed on my own. He explained everything from clothing, art, architecture, and court life to the broader historical and cultural context of the Ottoman Empire in a fascinating and accessible way. One thing we especially appreciated was how flexible and personalized the experience was. Unsal gave us the opportunity to tailor the tour entirely around Topkapi Palace, allowing us to spend all our time going as deep as possible into the parts that interested us most. He was patient, walked at our pace, and answered every single question we threw at him with genuine enthusiasm and expertise. He also came incredibly prepared with visual material, including official documents, historical references, and photographs from his own previous visits, which added a whole extra layer to the experience. On top of that, he even shared his YouTube channel with us, which was full of insightful content and clearly reflected his passion for history and storytelling. He recommended one of his favorite local restaurants — a place he personally visits with his father — which made the recommendation feel incredibly authentic and meaningful. We had an excellent day with Unsal. He met us at our hotel. We visited the “essentials” and more. He gave lots of information (he’ll tailor depending how much you want to hear); told us history and made loads of recommendations for the rest of our stay. We ate meatballs (Turkish favourite) and later, baclava in an artisan tea house. We have had a day to remember, highly recommend this tour. 🙏🏻
We had the most memorable tour with Unsal. He has expansive knowledge of Turkish history and culture. We learned a lot of interesting facts . He provided us with detailed explanations of everything we saw. Unsal was extremely accommodating. He met us at the hotel and we started the tour right away. He has a wonderful gentle personality and made us very comfortable throughout our long hours together. He is a great storyteller and very good photographer also. He sent us all good pictures that he took. We spent wonderful day with Unsal. His tour was excellent!!! We are very grateful and have the best memories of our time together!
Unsal tailored the experience perfectly, not only for our style but also for 2 somewhat tired travellers: his pace was great and he was aware of our needs at all times. Unsal was a really exceptional guide. Very professional and extremely informative. Would highly recommend. We toured these spots: Hagia Sophia, Basicalla Cistern, Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, and Grand Bazaar Lot of walking history around the highlighted areas above. Unsal was also very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and things to do outside of the tour.
We did the tour including blue mosque, hagia sophia, sultans tomb, hippodrome and basilica cisterns. The tour is extraordinary interesting for inter-cultural experience from the ancient to the modern istanbul. The perfectly well prepared schedule suits for beginners. For the ones with background knowledge or deeper interest in specific topics the tour could be personally adjusted on request. Our many detailed questions to social, economic, technical and cultural topics have all been answered in a motivated and enthoustiastic manor. - We enjoyed the tour also on a personal level and are deeply thankfull for the many recommandations and organisational support for our next holidays in istanbul. - Thank you very much! :-)
