Overall, our tour guide was helpful and especially assisted in carrying our luggage from the lodge to the port on a rainy day. However, the guide left our locked luggage unattended on the ferry boat with only the boat operators present, while he departed to assist with additional luggage for a second trip. During this unattended period, it is unclear what occurred. After the ferry crossing, we discovered that the lock on one handbag was missing and a power bank inside the bag was gone. I reported this incident to Viator. Viator responded: “We truly regret the inconvenience you experienced and appreciate your feedback, which helps us reinforce recommendations to travelers regarding the supervision of valuables during transfers.” Actually, as travelers, we are always careful to look after our luggage and valuables. However, it is uncomfortable to feel the need to constantly monitor one’s belongings out of suspicion. I am sharing this experience to Viator not to place blame, but to help Viator strengthen its management practices and ensure an honest, reliable team that travelers can truly trust.
Unfortunately the experience with your tour left us very upset and disappointed!! Charged twice more for the trip people had paid $100 usd and we were charged $360 usd per person! Same services. The place we stayed wad filthy dirty the food wss terrible! Basic accommodation will be an understatement! Worst experience ever!!! Really poor BAD
We deeply regret having to respond to a comment that, after thorough review, does not correspond to any passenger who has booked or participated in one of our tours. There is no record of your name or match in our systems, which leads us to seriously question the veracity and intent of this review. This type of malicious posting affects reputable businesses that work hard and with dedication to provide authentic experiences in the Amazon rainforest. It is highly suspicious that you would mention figures and conditions without any backing, especially when our prices are publicly visible and standardized, and our accommodations meet all the standards we advertise. We also alert the Tripadvisor team that this type of comment could be linked to individuals profiting by offering to remove or modify reviews in exchange for money, a sadly common practice in the tourism industry. We reserve the right to take legal action if the malicious intent of this post is confirmed. Canopy Tours Iquitos remains committed to transparency, safety, and visitor satisfaction. We invite real travelers to read the authentic experiences of our verified customers.
Honestly, our guide Dexter was a really nice guy, he tried his best to make everyone happy. Unfortunately, the travel agency “Canopy Tours” was really cheap and irresponsible. The 1st day arrangements were okay and happy, but the 2nd day we felt like be dumped. After a morning fishing session on 2nd day, our group was rushed to have lunch & pack up for leaving in half hour, just because our tour guide was rushing to one port to pick up a coming group. So our group was dumped in the middle of return trip without guide, stupid waiting for other return groups more than 2 hours in extremely hot boat without any notification, eventually we moved to another port, and then another extra 2 hours waiting in boat without notice. We left lodge at about 12:30pm and got back Iquitos hotel around 8:00pm. Thinking about the anxiety and frustrations If you’re rushing for a flight.
A highly recommended experience for all those who want to flee the bustle of the city, Our Guide Julio was always very attentive to us and made the experience even better than expected. Meals and dinners varied always with different fruits, meat or fish. Undoubtedly an experience that must be lived at least once in a lifetime.
Paid non-gringo price of 300S per person at the main office. Itinerary: Day 1 *Pick up from hotel *Transfer from main office to port. *Cruise on Amazon for about an hour. Saw a couple of dolphins far away. *”Indignos village”. Doubt it highly since the entrance was less than 100m from the lunch and lodge. Got to shoot a blowgun. Wow. Was mostly a tourist trap to sell souvenirs. *monkey island. (Not the real one). Two monkeys and an ant eater. Can you feel the excitement?! *Serpentario. A couple of caged snakes several caged birds and a bunch of squawking parrots. Best part was the medicine tasting. *Lunch/Dinner and lodge. Food was ok. Pool was murky green. Lodge was a screened in termite infested bungalow. Water was a gross brown if it was running. Mattresses were old and uncomfortable. Although the sheets and towels were clean. Note. You can get all of the above without the overnight stay for 100S * Walk in the jungle. 1hr (X2. Day and night walk). This was actually cool. Our guide pointed out many trees, birds and almost got bit by a bullet ant showing us a colony. Saw a real sloth along with really cool fish and at night an alligator. Another group saw a poison frog. At night it was really creepy and fun. Kudos to our guide Jose. Day 2. Really a waste of time *Sunrise over the Amazon. *breakfast *Fishing for minnows and piraña(tiny) *Swim in the muddy Amazon water while sinking in the mud. Lunch I thought the trip was amusing but way overrated given previous review. Would not do if I knew better before hand.
Do not book this tour!!! Especially online. We discovered that the local price for the tour is 300 soles, while we were charged $300 CAD, which is approximately 3x the local price. This is an unacceptable markup and is clearly exploitation of foreign visitors. Other reasons this was an awful experience: Lack of Communication: There was no contact from the company prior to the trip, leaving us uncertain about the details and logistics of the tour. We had to reach out ourselves through WhatsApp. Misrepresentation of Tribe: We were led to believe that we would be visiting an authentic Amazonian tribe, but it turned out to be a fake tribe set up for tourists as we observed the tribe people wearing normal clothes the following day. This is not only misleading but also undermines the cultural integrity of the indigenous communities in the Amazon. Excessive Waiting and Disorganization: We experienced significant periods of waiting around (often for hours at a time) with no clear explanation or activities during the tour. This wasted valuable time and disrupted the overall flow of the experience. The overall organization of the tour was lacking, leading to confusion and frustration, and there was a general lack of coordination among the tour guides and staff. Poor Guiding: The guide took us through a construction area, which was not part of the advertised tour itinerary. Additionally, we spotted barely any wildlife, and the guide seemed to point out random things just to make up for the lack of sightings (he pointed out a shriveled black leaf that he said was a “night butterfly”. If you google this there is no such thing. Furthermore, the guide's English proficiency was limited, and he did not wait for us to start the morning tour, which he started at 4:50am when he said we would start at 5am. He couldn’t even wait the 5 minutes for us to get ready and left us. Missed Sanctuary Visit: We were disappointed to discover that we did not get to visit the sanctuary with the other group, as it was part of the tour itinerary. We requested and asked for a 50% refunded given all these reasons, specifically the discrepancy in price that we paid compared to the local price that other people in our group paid. This refund request was rejected by both the tour company and viator, but we were able to get a refund from our credit card company who disputed the charge. We are so grateful we got the refund in the end but wanted to write this review to protect other potential customers from the company’s dishonest practices.
Pro's: Very experienced and knowledgeable guide. Friendly people. Real jungle experience. Range of jungle activities (boat tours, walking tours, swimming, dolfin watching, different types of jungle places, night tour). Con's: No contact from the organisation after booking via tripadvisor, it was up to us to find them and contact them in time. English language was very limited (he kind of made up for it with knowing a wide range of animal calls though). Limited amenities
Checks all the boxes for the typical issues you see with jungle tours - lots of small deviations from the written itinerary that added up to an overall fun, if at times annoying experience. Some cliffsnotes: * we were promised a tour in English, but if we didn’t speak Spanish at a a second language, communication would have been difficult. * lodge is just ok and might seem crappy to travelers from the US/Europe - no power after 9 pm for example, so I couldn’t use my CPAP machine 😥 * I signed up for 2 days/1 night but the business office told our guide 3 days/1 night and it took them a while to clarify that they could get us back on time for our flight out of Iquitos, even though I was pretty insistent that I needed assurance that we were on the right tour * BRING EARPLUGS OMG - we went to bed the second the lights went out at 9, only to be kept up all night by 1) an ayahuasca ceremony and 2) a f**ing rooster * The business guy kept trying to sell us ayahuasca, which if you know anything about that stuff, requires mental and physical preparation before tripping. No thanks. * On our boat trip back they sprung a few unscheduled stops on us for “people on another tour”, then told us we either had to pay to participate or stay on the boat. We opted to pay but cmon. Highlights: Julio was a pretty good guide. He was knowledgeable about the local plants and animals and treated us well. Helped us get beer too which I appreciated! Also the food was pretty great. I know this sounds like a pretty negative review, but in reality we had a pretty good time. It was one of those situations where you have a choice to either complain the whole time or just have fun, and we did the latter. The jungle was beautiful, the Amazon was interesting, and we took some nice hikes. Overall: worth the experience for the price, but I’m sure you can find better if you look a little harder than I did for a more professional tour operator.
Pros; -Guide (Klaus) was amazing. Local man who is very knowledgable. Got the opportunity to speak to several guides and theyre all locals from fishing villages. Super interesting to talk too. -The things we got to do was very cool. We got to eat the flesh of real cocao beans. Got to see snakes, spiders, monkeys and all sorts of flora. And go piranha fishing. Now how cool is that Cons; -We was taken to a restaurant near the tour operator in the morning, which we had to pay for. This is because we arrived too early. I asked multiple times prior if I could sleep in the lodge on arrival and was ignored. The answer is no you cant. You have to wait until the previois guests have left the lodge and the lodge is a few hours down river -At the start we was told we only have 2 days and 1 night but we can do whatever we want in that time. It was sad to hear that we needes to pay extra when we wanted to see monkey island and the lilypads. Especially when it says its included on the tour Overall we were looked after by the villagers (ps it is an ecolodge. No power outlets or anything-what I expected but you need to be realistic) So im happy. Just a few things that knock it down for me
It was really good experience, our jungle guide, Claus was really helpful, showed us a lot of usefull things, (mostly spiders :D :D) Food was really delicious, especially the piranhas (what we fished for ourself :D)
