We had Theresa as our guide and she was amazing. She was incredibly enthusiastic and was able to impart a wealth of information about the air raid shelter, World War 2 and Bristol in general. This tour really brought the air raid shelter and I wish the company well with obtaining more historical artifacts.
Brilliant experience. Very interesting , I learnt a lot about the wartime Bristol centre. A very knowledgeable and amusing guide. Highly recommended.
Great experience with lots of interesting information delivered with humour and sensitivity. All at a gentle pace. Lots of things we didn't know about Bristol's early history through the war years right up to the 60's. Highly recommend.
Highly recommend. Our guide Owen was knowledgeable and entertaining. Even though it is only a very small area of Bristol there is a lot of history to discover.
Most informative (with pictures) guided tour. Duncan a real passionate about the history of that period and committed 110% to the air raid shelter and the history of Bristol. Truly knowledgeable Guide and still doing the research and adding Value to this tour through the contacts he make day and day out. Highly recommended if you’re interested in your city and what it looked like only 80 years ago.
We would recommend this tour. It was really interesting and we learnt a lot about Bristol generally and especially in relation to the Second World War. Our Guide was excellent - very good value.
Really great experience! The walking is minimal, just a little wander around the market area but that was good for my elderly grandad. Even though we covered a small area there was so much to learn. The guide pointed out loads of fascinating stuff I have been walking past without noticing for years! Teresa was brilliant with her facts and the way she brought theatre to her story telling. Highly enjoyable! The collection of historical items was also brilliant. My only constructive criticism is that it would have been good to have had 5-10mins at the end, after the tour had finished, to look at the many artefacts and photos ourselves. But the guide talked us through loads of them and the stories behind them. An excellent tour and brilliant value for money, highly recommend!
Interesting, atmospheric and engaging. Owen makes the history very present and easy to place yourself in the time. It was very emotive to see the gas masks and hoods for children. Sadly, didn't meet Margaret the ghost but beware of the random fan! St Nics above ground is also a brilliant place to spend some time.
Can’t recommend this highly enough. If you’re a resident of Bristol, or even if you are a visitor, you should definitely do it! You will learn so much about the Blitz, WW2 in Bristol, the wider wartime history of the city and much more besides. The tour starts outside the Corn Exchange and tours the immediate area. You will learn so much about the evolution of this central part of the city, details will be highlighted that you never noticed and some of Bristol’s links to the slave trade are also unpacked. Once inside the shelter, be prepared to experience the stark reality of what sheltering for your life must’ve felt like whilst incendiaries and explosives fell overheard. The guides have collected a remarkable stock of local and national WW2 artefacts and their knowledge knows no bounds. If Duncan is your guide, you are in for a treat and a half! His passion for this topic is unrivalled and it is clear that he has put so much work into the tour. I highly recommend the tour for groups, singles, friends, couples or anyone who wants to learn more.
Great tour experience in Bristol! Wonderful to hear and witness what the city went through all those years ago and how it impacted our beautiful city. Owen was fantastic!
