Wat Thmei (Thmey) — Siem Reap's Killing Fields og genocide mindesmærke Beliggende lige syd for Siem Reap (ca. 10–15 minutter med tuk-tuk eller 20–30 minutter med cykel), Wat Thmei er en af flere steder i Cambodja kendt som "Killing Fields" fra Khmer Rouge e Fra 1975 til 1979 blev Wat Thmei – en buddhistisk pagode – ombygget som et Røde Khmer fængsel og henrettelsessted. Fanger blev ført ind, tvunget til falske bekendelser, og tragisk henrettet og begravet i nærheden i massegrave og brønner. Det anslås, at omkring 8.000 uskyldige cambodjanere - herunder intellektuelle, tidligere embedsmænd og bønder - døde her under regimets brutale styre.
Bygget i 1904 under det franske protektorat, denne elegante Khmer-stil villa tjener som den officielle kongelige residens for kongen af Cambodja, når han besøger Siem Reap.
