This tour was the first thing we did in Scotland, and it was a great way to learn some of the history of the area before we started wandering around on our own. Our tour guide, Niccola, had a truly encyclopedic knowledge of Edinburgh, and shared the history of the city with us in a fun and engaging way. We saw so many neat things tucked into the nooks and crannies of the Royal Mile that we never would have found without a guide, and they wouldn't have been nearly as interesting without the historical context Niccola provided. And, despite the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile, it was always easy to hear her, as she was miked and we were provided with earphones for the tour. This clever solution appeared to be unique to Mercat tours, as the other tour guides we saw were forced to shout over the noise of the city. Overall, this was a highly enjoyable experience.
Mally was a fantastic guide. He’s so passionate about the history and the city and told us many stories about the old Edinburgh that you’d never known from the web. Thumbs up!

We booked the Secrets of the Royal Mile tour. Mally was our guide. We can't recommend this high enough. It was incredible to learn of the duality and history of Edinburgh. Mally had not only a sense of passion for the what he does, but also a story-perfect voice to share the information. Our tour ran a bit late (to our pleasure) due to the stories and explanations he gave before leaving us. I'd book again with Mercat and would 101% recommend asking for Mally!

Great tour! It was very informative, and the audio equipment was helpful. Marina was very friendly, thoughtful, and made the experience very enjoyable.
Great experience, the only tour that we saw that included headphones, and in the loud and busy street was a must if you wanted to hear what was being. Mally our tour guild did a great job and I would highly recommend him.

Linda was a fabulous tour guide - engaging, funny and full of great information. The tour covers a lot of basic history of Edinburgh and Scottish royal history. You start at the Royal Mile and end inside the castle. Linda explained it well, and told some great stories. We loved it!
