Denne østlige Madeira tur kombinerer øens mest ikoniske steder med en professionel og velorganiseret service. Vores rejse begynder med en klatring til Pico do Areeiro, øens tredje højeste bjerg, der stiger til 1.818 meter over havets overflade. Herfra kan du nyde den omfattende udsigt, hvor dramatiske bjergtoppe møder det dybe blå Atlanterhav. Dette sted er også en gateway til nogle af øens mest spændende vandrestier.
Vi gør derefter vores vej ned til Ribeiro Frio, beliggende inden for den frodige laurbærskov og velkendt som udgangspunkt for en af de klassiske levada vandreture. Området er hjemsted for ørreteskov og den gamle Laurissilva-skov, et UNESCO-listet økosystem, der går tilbage til forhistoriske tider, hvor meget af Madeiras oprindelige planteliv er blevet bevaret.
Vores næste stop er landsbyen Santana, der er berømt for sine ikoniske trekantede huse med slibede tag. Disse traditionelle hjem, der er omhyggeligt vedligeholdt som et symbol på Madeiras arv, skiller sig ud i det omgivende grønne landskab og giver indsigt i øens landlige traditioner.
I den naturskønne landsby Faial tager vi tid til at sætte pris på dens rolige og indbydende omgivelser. En bakke kronet med et stort kors ser ud over byen, hvilket giver vidtrækkende udsigt over de dramatiske klipper langs Nordkysten og det store Atlanterhavet
Turen fortsætter derefter til Portela, et udsigtspunkt, der er kendt for sin imponerende udsigt over Porto da Cruz og Eagle Rock. Herfra kan besøgende beundre den slående kontrast mellem høje bjerghøjder, grønne dale og det åbne hav, der fremhæver øens varierede landskab.
Når vi når Ponta de São Lourenço, skifter landskabet mærkbart. Denne østligste spids af Madeira er kendetegnet ved sin tørre, robuste terræn, helt anderledes fra øens grønnere områder. Good day out, especially since we only had 3 days and did not rent a car. I would not opt for lunch, if I were to book this again. The bus does make a stop in a location where there are plenty of restaurants, so you do not need to worry.

Disappointed that the wicker artesian tour hasn’t been on for five years and no one has updated the Tripadvisors website. Rest of the tour was just ok. Weather not great.

Overall it was an amazing tour and we managed to see some amazing views due to getting lucky with the weather! It was a great way to see loads of the island in one day. Tour guide was very knowledgeable; he spoke in English and Portuguese. Our commentary was maybe around 70% Portuguese and 30% English in case that may be a problem but what can you expect in a Portuguese island.

Snr Barros gave us a fantastic tour. It was supposed to be in Portuguese only but there were two German speakers on the tour, so he did it in both languages. We saw breathtaking views and traditional houses, and we also got lots of interesting information about Madeira. I drank quite a lot of poncha, too!

We decided to have a private tour as our cruise ship time in port was limited. We were met at the port by Melem, who asked what our interests were and adapted our day accordingly. He never rushed us and allowed us plenty of time at the viewpoints to admire the fantastic vistas. We also were able to extend the Lavada walk while he drove to meet us. His local knowledge allowed us to see an inhabited triangular house in Santana. We opted to include lunch in Santana as part of our tour and this was an excellent 3 courses.
