Rejseplan

We went with family to visit the house. The guided tour in French was very interesting. A beautiful house filled with Asian works surrounded by a beautiful garden. The boat line passes right by
It was almost 200usd and it was basically transportation. The guide did not know much about the museum and just followed along as I read the prompts in English. The audio tour would have been better. The guides English was not great. She made a reservation for the Jim Thompson house for an English tour, then left without clear directions and I missed a few minutes of the tour because I did not know what to look for. My recommendation is take a grab or BTS, buy your tickets and arrange an English tour at the Thompson House yourself.
If you only have a few days in Bangkok, this is not a must-see sight despite what some of the travel books and blogs seem to suggest. It’s interesting to see the Thai architecture and the art in the house, but we’d recommend the National Museum and Siam Museum before here. There’s not much info at all about how Jim Thompson reinvigorated the silk industry in Thailand — it’s mainly about how he came to acquire the house (actually a collection of homes) and a quick bit about some of the art and his life. We usually love sights and tours that focus on architecture but honestly this wasn’t that exciting. You can only go through the house with a group and guide that is provided at certain times when you buy your ticket.
Fascinating and compelling story. Interesting architectural destination with great insights into Thai housing, culture, and historical artifacts. Thompson's designs and textiles are iconic and memorable. We knew nothing about Jim Thompson, and this was a last-minute tour added to our Bangkok itinerary - we enjoyed it very much and learned a lot. Take the tour if you go - our guide was knowledgeable and provided great historical and cultural context. Do not miss the gift shop!
Lovely former residence of Jim Thompson silk merchant. Nicely displayed collection s as well as historical perspective. National Museum with several fascinating items.
Good opportunity to walk through classic Thai architecture from 1800’s. This property included buildings from Ayutthaya and Bangkok that were dismantled, brought to the site and rebuilt. Thompson, an architect by training, improvised and added modern elements. The tour, although mandatory, was informative and helped to control the flow of tourists.
excellent tour of two interesting museums - the Jim Thompson House and Museum and the National Museum
Lucky was a phenomenal guide. She had great knowledge of Thailand's culture and history. She was also very accommodating to minor request. Very patient and pleasant overall! As we walked through the museum, she explained some of the religious aspect of some of the pieces as well as the relations between other nations. The Jim Thompson House tour was nice as well. Learned about his connections with various distinguished people and the architecture of the house. We also went to the Gem and Mineral museum. There was a video the beginning, a walk through of the jewlry creation and shopping. They have a good range of quality items. I enjoyed my time and appreciate Elle's aka "Lucky" patience and desire to make sure we had a great experience. I hope to see her again on my next trip to Thailand
At 200 THB, the entrance is not cheap and so are other things at this place - clothes, food etc. The ticket includes a 40 minute guided tour tour in english and some other languages. Mr Thompson was an american who settled in Thailand, collected a lot of antique artifacts including Buddha statues, painting etc. These are on display in the house - and 4 other small structures. There is small lush green garden by the side of a canal which has active waterway transport.
Very interesting house and the story of Jom Thompson. A pity that the tour guide had a very thick mask on and rattled off information behind the mask - difficult to hear and to understand.
