Påvirkede af fransk prototype blev paladset bygget af arkitekt Nicodemus Tessin den ældste på vegne af dronning Hedvig Eleonora. En række kongelige figurer har siden da slået deres mærke på paladset. Slottet er deres majestætter Kongen og Dronningens fastboende bopæl. Værelserne i paladsets sydlige fløj er reserveret til dette formål. Resten af slottet og grunde er åbne for offentligheden året rundt.

Drottningholm Slot er på UNESCOs liste over verdensarvsliste. Det er det mest velbevarede kongelige slot bygget i 1600'erne i Sverige og er samtidig repræsentativt for hele europæisk arkitektur for perioden.
Inde i pavillonen står kinesisk-inspirerede svenske rokoko møbler sammen med importerede kinesiske genstande. Flere af værelserne har stadig deres originale kinesiske silke og papir vægbeklædning. Der er også lakerede skærme, glasmosaik, porcelæn og andre dekorative genstande, hvoraf mange sandsynligvis blev importeret af det svenske østindiske selskab. Men nogle af de kinesiske objekter er her endnu ældre, herunder stykker fra dronningen Hedvig Eleonora og dronning Kristina, hvor porcelæn var utroligt dyrt.

The castle is beautiful, the history very interesting. Agnes has been a guide for 30 years and is extremely knowledgeable so made the tour very special. We also learned so much about Sweden and how the society/government functions. Also fascinating. Our driver was excellent and the entire experience will be one we remember forever. So fortunate we were able to do this tour. We wanted to tour in the morning but the afternoon worked for the company and it turned out to be great as there were very few people there. I was surprised, it felt like we had the whole castle to ourselves. Thank you so much!

Zero stars not an option. Ten minutes early at hotel pickup point,waited 15 minutes, no show. Call tour operator Guide Father no answer. Called Viator support, they could not contact them also. This was a private tour. Pricey, left a four hour gap in our plans and in a foul mood. Really wanted to see this palace, and will not. Do not recommend this tour. Book at your own risk

The drive out to Drottningholm took about 25 minutes, and along the way our guide pointed out different neighborhoods, telling us bits of Swedish history that we never would have learned on our own. The approach to the palace itself was absolutely breathtaking the symmetry of the gardens and the way the building sits by the water made for a stunning first impression.
This business has charged us for a tour we did not take. We have tried numerous times to work with Viator and this comapny without any success and have had to go to our bank to keep our money from being stolen. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

You asked to change pick up time to earlier less then 24 hours. We offered you 12:00 noon earliest but this time slot didn't fit your new itinerary also. We are really sorry but the very last cancellation during high season is not possible. We kindly asking to appreciate our business and policy of Tripadvisor.

The place is beautiful and eorth seeing, This was an expensive way of visiting it. The tour was less than 3 hours including the commute. Be aware the entrance tickets are not included. The tour guide recommended we take the tour to the theather (recommended). We also had to pay for it. The explanation of the tour guide of the main palace was rushed and short because we had the test get your scheduled.
