The bus driver was legit. A regular Ricky Bobby. Got us to the 9:30pm ferry as promised!!!! 5 stars!!! Thank you!!
This was such an amazing experience! It was totally worth it! The tour guides were funny and informative. They also made sure we made it back to the last ferry without any problems. Even though it’s called mosquito bay, we didn’t have any problems with mosquitoes. The clear canoes were so much fun! I’m so glad we made sure to book with a tour group that had them. People who don’t, are missing such a neat experience. If we ever are able to visit Puerto Rico again, we’ll definitely be doing this tour again!
My children enjoyed the experience from the bus and the road. We arrived and that's when the laughter started upon getting into the kayaks and seeing that unique water that glowed; they couldn't believe it, and neither could we, it is something beautiful. Upon finishing, they took us to the ferry since it is included. Thanks to everyone at Tropical, they gave us an incredible vacation.
From the moment we arrived at the meeting point it was fun and organized, it is a different activity. The magic begins as you see the glowing water through the transparent kayaks and touch the water. The guides were kind and explained everything.
We booked the 7:00 p.m. Biobay Vieques Kayak Night Tour because we had a 9:30 p.m. ferry to catch afterward. The company instructed us to arrive at 6:45 p.m., but we ended up waiting until around 7:45 p.m, which was seriously delayed from the original time (7:00). Before the tour started, we made it very clear to both the guide and the driver that we had a ferry reservation. The driver assured us that we would make it back to the ferry on time, so we trusted that the schedule had been planned accordingly. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were rushed through the whole tour since we started at 8:00 pm. Because of this we didn't leave the lagoon until around 8:45 p.m., even though the ferry terminal was about a 30-minute drive away. Realizing how late we were, the driver began driving dangerously fast on the dark, bumpy roads in an attempt to make up for lost time. The ride was extremely stressful and had everyone in the vehicle on edge. Our family, along with the other families in the van, was practically having a panic attack because of how unsafe the drive felt. The bioluminescent water was very bright, and the water itself was clean, but that didn't make up for how stressful the experience became. We arrived at the ferry terminal only about 10 minutes before our ferry was scheduled to leave. We were rushing the entire time and honestly thought we were going to miss it. If your tour company knows that customers have a scheduled ferry to catch, they should make sure they should start on the scheduled time and get the customers back safely before boarding starts (9:00 pm). The poor time management completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable experience.
Safety was the primary concern. Hopefully this was a one-off. We are very experienced in the environment and equipment on this trip. Our guide was friendly but omitted some basic trip instructions, adequacy of life vests, and flipped boat run-through. It was a dark night, small child in the group, several teams in the water, ramp crowded with multiple operators, no clear directions on entry. Our trip time was rescheduled and the guide seemed to be a substitute, not a regular, not at all professional. Another reviewer might have a different perspective. I tried to contact the company privately to discuss but got no response. This review is more for the operator out of concern for their selection of guides and adherence to reasonable safety standards.
Beginning with our driver… such a fun experience! Everyone in the van was full of laughter. Their kindness and welcoming staff was truly noted, people that love their island and express that love through their work. Our guide was phenomenal and most knowledgeable regarding constellations to the point our teenagers couldn’t stop talking about it for days. Once you’re out there in the middle of the water, you will never forget that moment. It was the best night of our lives and we got to share that with our children. It was expensive and I can’t deny I thought long and hard about it but honestly turned out to be the most rewarding thing I’ve ever spent money on. Definitely takes number 1 on our list for things to do in Vieques. Couldn’t recommend this higher
Although this company does not include pickup, they picked us up before the tour at Caracas Beach. Upon arriving at Biobay, the instructions were very precise. Then Dereck helped me with my two children since they were a little scared, but then everything was beautiful. A unique experience, I will return with my friends. I recommend this company if you go to Vieques
Everything was excellent from the moment we arrived we communicated with danny and he helped us get a car to rent and told us where we could eat well. Then at night the kayaks and the glowing water were a spectacle. Thanks to everyone for making it a wonderful night.
Pros: definitely once in a lifetime experience. Guide was funny, charismatics and personable. The kayaks being clear are a nice touch. Your guide made sure he taught us how to take pics and video since it is very tricky. Cons: Lots of life jackets in poor condition. Concerns over vehicles condition. Not very organized. Initially, our tour guide told us to only follow the red light which was exclusive for our group but once there, there were multiple red lights and at some point another group came too close to ours and a kayak hit mine. I guess they were equally confused and followed the wrong red lights. Thankfully I am an experienced kayak rider so I was able to maneuver mine and avoid the other one rapidly coming at me. However, this would’ve been way different for some of the other people (some kids) in my group. The tour started late almost 7:35 pm when it was scheduled for 7 pm. We almost missed the last ferry, even when 3/4 of the group made the coordinators aware we had to be there before 9:30. The drive back was extremely unsafe. Speed wise, the road condition, and the fact there are lots of wild horses all over made all of us in the van very uncomfortable.
