Historisk, arv og kulturel gåtur rundt i George Town

Beskrivelse
Andre ting at bemærke: 1.

With the introduction of our tour guide Tiger, I learned about the diverse culture and history of Penang. Starting from the City Hall, passing Fort Cornwallis, the Clock Tower, to the Guanyin Temple, Penang Street Houses and Little India, we have walked through the development of George Town. What I found interesting after arriving in Penang is that the local "street names" have different names depending on the culture. It's great to see different cultural groups retain their own cultures and respect each other.
On Monday 14 January 2025 I took the historical walking tour with Tiger around George Town. It turned out I was the only one booked into the English speaking group but Tiger was very obliging and said he would conduct it for one person. There is no minimum number on his tours. The tour was advertised as being around 5 hours at a slow walking pace, with plenty of breaks and time absorb the sights. And this is exactly what happened So there were no misunderstandings as to when it would start and finish: from 8.30am to around 1.30pm. It was a long morning but not exhausting. This tour is for those who would like to hear detailed accounts of various aspects of George Town and Penang's varied history, many of which are not likely to be found in tourist guides. Tiger is a local to George Town and has been running local tours for about 8 years. His English is excellent. Tiger was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Penang and all its cultural influences going back to early centuries of migration to the area, sea exploration and the establishment of trade routes, and then covering some of the more modern events in colonial times under the British. One of the highlights was having a brunch stop at a cafe where traditional Malaysian noodle dishes were served, together with soft boiled eggs and toast strips, which are traditional British fare, known as English soldiers. Aspects of Malay, Chinese, Indian and British history were covered with visits to an Anglican Church, Temple and Mosque. Tiger's anecdotes and explanations were very interesting and thorough. The tour is good value for money and compared to other cultural tours I read about on TripAdvisor, where people complained it was rushed, this one was one was set at a relaxed pace with plenty of opportunity for questions and rest breaks. I can highly recommend it. PS After the tour has finished, you're not too far from Armenian Street and the Chew Jetty, if you're up for some more sightseeing!
Tger's immense wealth of historical knowledge makes the tour a must-attend tour for history lover. Don't miss out this tour if you are interested in history and heritage.
Tiger is your person if you want a deeper understanding of George Town before, during and after British colonialism. As a local, it is clear he loves his home town. He also will gives great insight why Malaysia's melting pot works so well.
Tiger is fantastic. He is so passionate about Penang history and goes out if his way to make the tour fun with lots of anecdotes to compliment the history. You can tell that he loves what he does. Can absolutely recommend a tour with Tiger.
Tiger has a great passion for history, both local and global. He did a fantastic job of contextualizing the story of Georgetown into the larger global political and religious landscape of the time, illustrating that story with several stops around town. You will see religious buildings from Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism; traditional neighborhoods from the early British, Chinese, Indian, and Malay citizens; and even learn about the six-meals-a-day (!) habits of modern Penangites through a stop at a local food cart. If you want to really experience the history of Georgetown, then definitely don’t miss this tour!
This is one of the best tours I have joined on viator. Tiger is extremely knowledgable and I learnt so much about Penang during the tour. He also showed me some local traditional businesses which were interesting! I would totally recommend this tour to my friends!
It was a fantastic experience. Tiger was well informed, and I’ve learned so many new things about Malaysia and especially about Penang. The whole tour was perfectly organized. If I come back to Penang, I would book another tour.
The guide's presentation yesterday was fantastic. From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., it's been all over the place, except for walking the streets and roads (even during dinnertime, it's about the local food culture). The history of Penang's founding, the colonial history of European countries in Southeast Asia, the development of the three major races in Penang, the religious stories of the four religions Anecdotes and interesting events in Penang's distinctive celebrations, the reasons for UNESCO's success in its application, and even some architectural history, distinctive plants and so on, are all strung together with vivid and interesting stories and questions. Despite the hot weather, the 11-year-old has no complaints and listens from start to finish. What an extremely high level guide!
The tour guide tiger was well informed and made the tour interesting and memorable Would highly recommend him
Hi Cynthia, Thank you for your great review, hope you will come back again to Penang in the future.
