Idéen om at tage på en elcykeltur i Rio blev født ud fra min passion for cykling og min kærlighed til byen, hvor jeg valgte at bo. Efter flere dages cykling gennem skoven med en normal cykel, begyndte jeg at spekulere på, hvordan det ville være muligt at gøre denne oplevelse levedygtig for mange flere mennesker. Det var sådan, det kom til mig at købe elcykler, der er i stand til at hjælpe dem, der har brug for dem, undervejs. (cyklerne er pedalstøttede, har ingen speeder og er ikke en motorcykel) I løbet af denne oplevelse vil du få mulighed for at lære mange vidunderlige steder at kende, ikke særlig tilgængelige og mindre kendte. I slutningen af dagen vil du have et anderledes billede af Rio de Janiero, og du vil vide meget mere om, hvordan byen er sammensat og struktureret. Udover dette vil du være i konstant kontakt med naturen, med mulige og sandsynlige møder med tukaner, aber og mange andre eksotiske dyr.
Vi mødes på Rua Aarão Reis 105, hvor jeg vil vise dig, hvordan elcykler fungerer, og give dig råd om, hvordan du tackler turen. Vi begynder at cykle gennem Santa Teresa-kvarteret i retning af Mirante Dona Marta og passerer gennem forskellige turiststeder såsom Castelo Valentim, Mirante Dos Prazeres og CEAT-skolen, inspireret af det gamle palads i Firenze.
Vi ankommer til Mirante Dona Marta, et af de smukkeste udsigtspunkter i byen, hvor vi vil parkere cyklerne og tage forskellige billeder med udsigt til Kristus Forløseren og Sukkertoppen, og jeg vil forklare, hvordan byen er bygget op.
Fra Mirante Dona Marta tager vi til Centro de Visante Paneiras (Kristus Forløserens parkeringsplads), hvor der er et badeværelse og en bar til at tage en pause.
Fra Centro de Vistante Paneiras starter vi cykelstien inde i Tijuca-skovens veje. Vi kommer forbi adskillige utrolige udsigter over den vidunderlige by, vi vil have mulige møder med aber, tukaner og andre eksotiske dyr. Vi når Alto da Boa Vista-distriktet ved at stige ned fra Corcovado (bjerget, hvor Kristus Forløseren ligger), hvor der vil være mulighed for at gå på toilettet og friske op.
Fra Alto da Boa Vista-distriktet vil vi genoptage vores tur i retning af kejserens bord, med front mod endnu en stigning, der vil blive gjort mindre trættende ved hjælp af pedalassistance. Kejserens bord er stedet, hvor kejser Dom Pedro II plejede at holde picnic, med en utrolig udsigt over det sydlige område af Rio de Janeiro.
Fra kejserens bord begynder vi at gå ned mod Vista Chinesa, et af de mest berømte og mindst tilgængelige udsigtspunkter i byen. Herfra vil det være muligt at se Kristus Frelseren, Sukkertoppen, Lagoa, Ipanema, Guanabara-bugten og mange andre steder i byen. Jeg vil tage flere souvenirbilleder, og vi starter den sidste nedstigning til Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
Fra Vista Chinesa går vi ned mod Lagoa, passerer gennem Horto-vandfaldene (sted, hvor det vil være muligt at stoppe for at tage billeder og tage et hurtigt bad) og til siden af Rio Botanical Garden. Vi kører et godt stykke af Lagoa cykelstien, hvor der er forskellige utrolige udsigter over Rio, mod Copacabana.
Vi ankommer syd for Copacabana-stranden, og vi vil dække hele cykelstien mod Botafogo.
Fra Copacabana følger vi på cykelstien og når Botafogo-stranden, hvor der vil være en spektakulær udsigt over Sukkertoppen.
Fra stranden i Botafogo fortsætter vi cykelstien, der fører os til den smukkeste og mest berømte park i Rio, terro do Flamengo. Vi dækker det næsten fuldstændigt og passerer langs Flamengo-stranden, og vi vender tilbage til udgangspunktet, Santa Teresa, med dagens sidste stigning.
Vi ankommer til Santa Teresa og passerer gennem den mest berømte og turistiske gade i kvarteret, hvor jeg vil vise dig botiquer og restauranter. Fra Largo dos Guimaraes går vi til startpunktet (et par meter væk), hvor turen slutter.

The day with Stefano was wonderful! He is very kind and knowledgeable, the bicycles are new and the tour was truly incredible! Absolutely incredible experience! Stefano was a fantastic guide, showing me all sorts of beautiful viewpoints, spotting animals, and helping me find a good place for lunch in Santa Teresa once the ride was over. Riding an e-bike is the ideal way to see the whole breadth of Rio in a single day, from the mountaintops in Tijuca National Park to Copacabana beach and everywhere in between. I will be recommending this tour whenever any of my friends visit Rio.

We did the tour with Stefano from www.vitacarioca.com (I recommend visiting his page for more details and other tours) on the first day we arrived in Rio and we were delighted. I can say it was the best experience in Rio, on par with Christ the Redeemer or Sugarloaf Mountain, but with the advantage of not having the crowds of those places. If you want to escape the typical crowded tours, this is your option; being able to go through the jungle with hardly anyone around is priceless. Jungle, beautiful landscapes, stunning views, and Stefano was a 10, very friendly, talking about the animals, giving city and food tips, etc. The bicycles were excellently maintained; they were not heavy even without electric assistance (I have tried others that felt like moving a dead weight without it), and they come with spare batteries. Everything was very well planned. Although the tour is not advertised in Spanish, do not hesitate to do it if you only speak Spanish, as he speaks and understands it perfectly at 95%. I had a fantastic experience with Vita Carioca and would definitely recommend their e-mountainbike tours. Communication was smooth from the start—everything was arranged via WhatsApp, and I could easily discuss route options in advance. They generally suggest different routes in Tijuca National Park (around 30–50 km) as well as a more urban option; I chose the longer park tour and it was absolutely worth it. Despite Rio’s heat, the temperature in the park was surprisingly comfortable, and with the e-bikes the distance is very manageable. I especially appreciated how safe everything felt—no riding through favelas—and how you get to see a completely different, green side of Rio that’s easy to miss otherwise. The guide was attentive and well-organized, even coordinating with my Uber driver beforehand to ensure a safe ride to Santa Teresa. Along the way, we had plenty of scenic stops, amazing views of Corcovado, and even spotted two sloths. The equipment was high quality (helmet included), and you can adjust the difficulty easily by controlling the level of assistance on the bike. After the tour, I received lots of great photos and videos, and the guide even dropped me off at the Selarón Steps, which was a nice extra touch. Overall, a really enjoyable and unique way to explore Rio.

If you’re after a unique and energetic view of Rio this is the tour for you. Stefano guided us through some amazing parts of Rio that most tourist would not experience. Being on an e-bike gave us a real connection to the environment which included the forest as well as the city and beaches. We saw several types of monkeys, turtles, toucans and lots of other birds. We covered 50km in 6 hours which should be considered when booking this. Totally worth the effort. Thanks Stefano for a memorable tour.

Our e-bike tour was the highlight of our trip to Rio. The ride started at our guides local suburb, which gave us more authentic feel of the city. Great bikes that made things effortless so we could relax and enjoy the views. Stefano was friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we felt safe navigating both the greener areas and the coastal paths.
