Unlike tours in Europe most things that get pointed out are no longer there. So it becomes "this is where xxx was" rather than "this is xxx and here is the history ".
There were only three of us on this tour and Marc was punctual and very charming . We covered a lot of territory and Marc seemed to know someone in every building he pointed out . I couldn’t keep with the names he was throwing out , famous names . We did like the fact that Marc lived in Greenwich Village since the 1950’s and knew his way around . He inserted his personal opinion on many changes in the village and told many personal family health problems his wife was experiencing in spite that he and his wife were leaving for Scotland the following day . All in all we found Marc charming and he really does love Greenwich Village . He even walked us to the restaurant we were having lunch .
Marc is a real lical tgat knows the area very well! Fun and enjoyable
My husband and I did the Greenwich Village walking tour with Marc on Saturday, Oct. 4. Marc was punctual, charming, and full of interesting stories. He was born and raised in the area so he really knew the history of the Village. I do have some comments though and suggestions for improving the experience. Marc seems to know a lot about the history but not so much about current happenings in the Village. We passed by 2 very popular restaurants that I knew about because of the well known chef and he knew nothing about them. No big deal, but it seemed his knowledge was restricted to the time period of 1960 - 2000. The other complaint we have is that 2/3 of time Marc told stories about himself, the famous people he knew, his mother, various relatives and where they were living, and personal stories we really had no interest in. We went along with it since he was very kind, passionate, and wanted to share the info but I would suggest leaving out personal family stories and stick to the subject of the Village, its people, and history. Marc is full of info and has had a very interesting life. We enjoyed hearing his stories but feel we missed out on more detailed information as so much time was spend hearing about himself, his wife, and family.
What an amazing man Marc is. He knows so much and is such a nice guy. I had a different tour in Greenwich Village 3 years ago. This tour is 10 times better.
Our tour guide Mark was very knowledgeable and was eager to show us as many spots as possible. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.
Mark was fabulous tour guide! Super informative, fun stories and truly an expert. Highly recommend!!
It was an unforgettable experience, thanks to Marc. His love and deep knowledge of the area were evident. He took us through the charming streets of Greenwich Village, sharing fascinating stories of culture, architecture and famous residents. Some general and some involving his personal history as a long time resident. He was fully involved in many of the events of the area. It was an extra bonus with his love of the arts and music sharing details about its residents. While we were the only ones on the tour, he extended the length of the tour and allowed me to stop and take many photos. We are very grateful to have met him and will have awesome memories of this tour.
Very interesting tour with a very lively guide. Helene is a very dynamic, full of story, person. We enjoyed and learned a lot during this tour.
This tour is the most unique, underrated and interesting tour I have done in NYC (and in my 2 weeks in NYC I have done almost all the walking tours advertised!). Marc was at the meeting point early and even though I was the only one who booked that tour slot he kept the tour just for me! Marc is in his late 70s and has lived in the Village his entire life. He knows, met, dined with or has detailed information about artists, musicians, actors, dancers (and more) who lived and worked in the Greenwich Village which he will tell you along the way. Additionally, he adds personal stories, shows before and after pictures and tells you interesting history of each street in the Village. Marc extended the tour and it lasted almost 3 hours where we zigzagged across EVERY street in the West Village. He does this for fun and to share his experiences and stories with others, so its a TRUE WITH-A-LOCAL TOUR. Absolutely grateful to have had this opportunity to learn first-hand from someone who saw and experienced it. This is the only tour you need to do for an authentic street by street tour of Greenwich Village! You end up seeing everything in-between the Meatpacking District to Soho. Thank you very much Marc for a lovely stroll, sharing your personal stories and an above and beyond tour. Will definitely do it again when next in NYC.
