It is basically a wine tasting tour. A bowl of pici at the end. Your guide Laura , was very personable and nice.
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you appreciated Laura’s kindness and personable approach during the experience. Valdichiana Living
Terrible value It was a wine tasting with a bowl of pasta at the end. We did 2 wine tastings one was free with a plate of appetizers for the general public. Very crowded & rushed the second was a wine tasting of 3 wines with a small plate of meats & cheeses worth 12E. The final stop was a restaurant where we could choose between 2 pasta bowls on the menu 12E each we had to buy our drink, even water. Our guide left immediately once we were seated. It lasted under 2 ours vs 3 as promised. The food was worth 36Euros. It cost $400. I would like a refund!
The client had already done three tours with us and was aware of how long the guide would stay, especially since one of the tours she chose was similar in structure to the Gourmet Tour. The “free” wine tasting offered by the wineries does not include the selection of wines she received, nor the tastings of typical local products. The same applies to the second winery. The Gourmet Tour includes a tasting of pici; if the lady wanted the full menu, she was free to pay for it at her own expense. The costs also include portal commissions, VAT, and the time saved by delegating the organization of one’s experiences to an agency. As the saying goes, a falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest.
Our guide Laura and Viator planned a wonderful tour that gave us a great view of the beautiful city of Montalpuciano, its sites, sounds, smells and tastes throughout a tour that took us walking on ancient streets and down deep into ancient buildings. The wines and cheeses And other specialty products we tasted were absolutely delicious. This is well worth your time and money in Tuscany.
The guide was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the experience very memorable. The first winery that we went to was also excellent- Roberta was A consummate professional-She knows about the products that she sells and was very effective in communicating that knowledge to us. The second stop was a little more disappointing as the proprietor did not show us the wine bottles that we were sampling and was not as engaging. Lunch was disappointing-the food was excellent but the service was not. The wait staff didn’t say a word to us
We were lucky. to have a wonderful guide during this visit. She told us the history of the city with lots of anecdotes and enthusiasm. We were able to taste the wine in 2 different places. We really enjoyed this beautiful walk.
First of all, the directions that we were given let us to drive into the city all the way to the top. Where we were not allowed to go, and could not park. Fortunately, I noticed that you needed a residential pass to park and headed back down the hill to the public parking. This causes to be late for the tour. I would highly recommend a note be put on the directions that you should park before you get to the town at the bottom of the hill and then walk to the meeting place. The tour itself was just average. The lady guide was very quiet in her voice, and barely spoke English. The tour was not what we expected. It was really a wine tour with orders at one of the stops we use Vivitar food tours all over the world and found this particular tour to be our least favorite I would not recommend it anybody looking for a full tour of the city.
Good morning William, thank you for your review, however we need to give some explanations. The meeting point of the tour is clearly written, we are located in the main square of Montepulciano and all parking spaces are indicated. We help you with parking and getting out of the restricted traffic area by waiting for over 40 minutes of delay (normally it would have been a no show). The tour you have purchased is a gourmet tour with stops at various tasting points from wine to typical products up to pici, typical pasta of the area. Our guide is an expert guide who knows the language and Montepulciano very well. However, we are sorry that the tour was not to your liking.
Great tour of Montepulciano with good explanation of local wine and food. A nice way to see the old city and sample some very tasty food and wine.
If we hadn’t already participated in a different Food Tour, we may have been more pleased with this one. Our guide was a lovely woman, who had a very good knowledge of the city, but her English(while MUCH better than our Italian) frequently had us searching for the right words for the tour. The first winery we went to, only gave us a sip of the wines, as compared to the half or full glass we received everywhere else. The tasting for the Riserve and Nobile wines at another winery, were quite nice. We finished with a lunch at a restaurant with a wonderful view of the countryside. We were a little surprised that our guide left us at the door of this restaurant, unlike other tours that stayed with us for the entirety of the tour. We felt that this tour was too expensive for what it delivered.
The guide was knowledgeable and congenial, and we enjoyed our tour. The focus was definitely on the wine, and less on the culture and architecture of the the city.
We enjoyed our time with our guide Laura. As we walked she gave us a short history of the town and pointed out architectural details. We went to two winery shops, wine cellar and ended our tour at a restaurant for lunch. We preferred our second wine tasting because the host wasn’t as rushed plus they served cheese and meats to taste. However, Laura was the highlight of the tour. We learned many facts about Montepulciano and the region from her. The reason we gave four stars was the price seemed a little high. All in all a pleasant few hours.
