We were really looking forward to this trip, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a big disappointment. We were particularly looking forward to the three hours at Štrbské Pleso, and most of all to the hike to Popradské Pleso. Unfortunately, we were given only just over an hour (instead of the promised three hours) to explore the lake, and we had to spend part of that time arguing with the guide when we realized that we would not have the opportunity to continue on to Popradské Pleso. As a result, our time there was extremely rushed and stressful. This was a major disappointment, especially as we had booked the trip specifically because of the visits to the Tatra Mountains. Several other aspects of the trip also did not match what had been advertised. For example, our visit to Čičmany lasted a rushed 25 minutes instead of the promised one hour. The wine tasting that was supposed to be included did not take place and was not replaced by anything else. On top of that, we spent many hours in the cramped minibus and did not even have time for the promised stop on the way back. Our guide was friendly, but unfortunately had no influence over the itinerary. He also seemed almost afraid of his manager and did not dare to call him when we pointed out the significant differences between what we had booked (and paid a substantial amount of money for) and what we actually received. The company, TrialTrails, also rejected our request for a 25% refund.
Avoid at all costs, the only more than positive aspect is the driver who is adorable and does his best to honor everything that is planned. In total 14 hours and 30 minutes of driving for 3 hours and 40 minutes of visiting, and even then, if you can call it a visit, so rushed for time that it is impossible to savor the moments. 3 wine tasting glasses mentioned but nonexistent. express visits, mostly outdoors because there wasn't enough time. An added visit to a castle with an extra entrance fee charged, plus the meal... in short, there were 3 of us and the day cost €500 to spend 85% of your time in the car... it is not worth that price. On the other hand, the driver was adorable, answered all our questions, and was very attentive all day despite the stress generated by the schedule, which was far too heavy given the distance covered during the day. In my opinion, it is inhumane and also dangerous
I booked this excursion well in advance, which was regularly confirmed by the organizer, but on the morning of the pickup, no one showed up. I did not receive any refund for what happened despite having requested it.
The trip is poorly organized. 9 sardines in a 9-seater van for 11 out of 15 hours. It is obvious that they should streamline the trip by removing a few stops, or get larger vans. We arrived at the lake at 7 in the evening, we were only able to stay there for a tight half hour because it took more than 3 hours to get back to Bratislava. We returned at 11 at night, exhausted. I am writing this the next day and I am still a wreck; I was supposed to run some errands today, but I will not do anything.
A great tour of villages, castles and the high tatras. We were picked up by the guide at our apartment. Milos (the guide and also driver) was very friendly and could tell a lot about the area and the country. During the trip he always coordinated with the participants how we would shape the program. It was a long tour but very rewarding. We can recommend this to everyone. Thanks for the wonderful day Milos!
You visit beautiful places and Martin was a very good tour guide and driver. You spend a lot of hours on the bus but this also gives you the chance to see a lot of Slovakia.
This was a fantastic way to see key sights, lakes and castles across Northern Slovakia. Miloš was a brilliant and friendly guide who provided lots of information about Slovakia’s rich history and ensured that all members of the group were included and engaged. He was committed to making sure that we seen as much as possible, without it feeling rushed. Orava Castle is an impressive medieval fortress but nothing compared to Bojnice Castle which is not only more aesthetic, with an interesting historical and walking tour provided but there could be more time spent in the general area (your guide will be able to provide you with recommendations) If you’re given the option, Orava castle would be the one to skip. It’s a long day and all of the castles are up steep inclines or have lots of towering stairs (something to consider if you have mobility issues) but very enjoyable. There are short stop off breaks every few hours. Bring snacks, water and prepare to venture out, rain or shine. This trip also offers a pick up and drop off to your hotel whereas most other tours will have a generic city centre drop off point.
This is a very long tour (7:30 AM to around 11:00 PM), so don't plan dinner afterward—you'll likely get back around that time. The tour was fantastic and never felt rushed. We had a small group of 8 people plus our guide/driver in a comfortable air-conditioned van. It was full, so it might feel a bit tight for very tall people. Our guide, Maria, was excellent. Her coworker drove a second van with another small group, and we met up with them at each stop along the route. All of the stops were well planned and well timed, and the guides always pointed us in the right direction and clearly explained where to go and when to meet back. The drive back was long, but both drivers handled it incredibly well. Štrbské Pleso was definitely the highlight of the day. It reminded me of the Dolomites in northern Italy. The drive there along the smaller roads was beautiful, and the scenery kept getting more impressive the closer we got. The stops at Čičmany and Bojnice Castle were also excellent. I booked through Viator because it was cheaper, yet I had the same experience as the other tour. The only extra costs were the €9 Orava Castle tour and your food and drinks. The sunset stop at a lakeside viewpoint with a glass of wine was a perfect way to end the day. We took group photos and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery. It was a long day, but absolutely worth it!
The route to take to see everything is very long but it is absolutely worth it. Our guide Lucky was fantastic and made us fully experience this. He told us a lot about the history of Slovakia and was at our disposal throughout the trip. He was very kind in always taking photos for us, bringing us to the places where the scenery was most beautiful. We also did the local wine tasting and it was delicious. I recommend doing this experience to understand this country much better because it has so much to offer. ❤️
This is a whole day trip, but it's worth it,we saw few castles and then did easy hike around a lake,I traveled with teenager and she liked too, guide was informative and nice, highly recommend!
