We had Matteo waiting for us at the port right on time. We loaded our group of 6 adults + 1 year old and started our drive to Florence (about an hour). We first stopped at a mirador to take the panoramic view of the city. There were lots of people there, but it's a good spot to get your group picture. We then headed to the city. I had booked in advance tickets to visit the Cathedral (you can visit for free, but the line is enormous, so book the tickets to visit the basilica di Santa Reparata and you can get in with a shorter line). The heat in Florence in July was too much for our group, so we took the car again around 1pm to search for a place to eat. We took the place suggestion from our driver for our lunch, where we had a fantastic bisteka Fiorentina among other delicious dishes. After gelatto, we headed back to the ship. It was a good experience and I highly recommend visiting Florence, even if it is very hot. Just be prepared and know when to stop to cool down. I used my Arctic Cool towels over my shoulders as a cover while visiting the church, and on my neck when walking outside and that really made a difference.
Simoné was the perfect tour guide. He and his tour partner made my family feel special. They were at our complete disposal and did everything to ensure we had a great time. Would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone traveling to Florence. Thank you for a wonderful experience, Simonè!!
Our driver/guide Claudio picked us up right on time in the port of Livorno. He was personable from the start of the trip. We made a quick stop in Pisa just to see the tower and cathedral as well as a quick detour on the route through wine country. Claudio knew Pisa well as it is his hometown so he gave us the history. His English, while not perfect was very understandable and there were no communication problems. Claudio then took us to Florence where he told us about some of the highlights and what we should see. He drove us around Florence a bit and then dropped us off right in the middle where we explored for several hours on our own before meeting him for the drive back. Overall Claudio was excellent. He efficiently and informatively helped us accomplish a lot in just a day (8-9 hours really). He was easy to speak with the entire time and his vehicle (a sprinter van-like Mercedes) was very comfortable and he is a great driver. He is highly recommended!
