We had great luck with the weather, the crew was very nice and took the time to talk with each guest, provided warm drinks and some fishcakes. One could even go up to the Captain and try out steering or just have a friendly conversation. Overall the trip was a delight!
This Hermes II trip is a must do in Tromso. It is a boat trip on a boat with a fascinating history, manned by a team who grew up in or near Tromso and were professional, knowledgeable, warm and friendly and really made the trip for me. We fished, saw a variety of wildlife and went to the site of the Turpitz sinking. And of course the scenery was stunning. They offer a number of other experiences that I will explore when I return to Tromsø.
Fantastic experience, the crew were exceptional and attended to everyone’s needs serving hot drinks and handing out blankets and well as telling us about history and local wildlife,we saw white tailed sea eagles, harbour seals and plenty of eider ducks - would definitely recommend to all ages.
Travel on a historic boat over 100 years old by the Tromsø Fjord. We leave the port and you can see both the coast of Tromsø and Tromsdalen. We are moving away from the city and towards a nearby island, protected for the conservation of birds, especially the white eagle. Seals and wreckage from a ship sunk in the Second World War are also observed. Nothing crowded, maximum 18 people, with explanations from the captain and crew, all attentive and very nice. Halfway through the trip, which is 2 1/2 hours, we went down inside the boat and were told the story of the Hermes II. Highly recommended.
Great trip around Tromsø, must do when in Tromsø! Crew was lovely and the views are very scenic. Would definitely recommend doing it!
Most people visit Tromsø for a view of the Northern Lights but this is a great activity for those pesky daytime hours. A friendly, hugely knowledgeable crew takes you out among the fjords, into the realm of gulls, eagles and seals and the sites of wartime derring-do, such as the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944. Hot drinks and fish cakes help to keep the chill out and they also have thermal suits available if the winds pick up. Recommended.
Very nice and entertaining crew. If you're offered a thermal suit - take it. It's very cold out at sea. It should also be mentioned that many reviews stated that the visit to the old fish factory was so boring. Apparently this has been noticed by now, because we were not in a fish factory. We have eagles, seals and a sunken submarine from the 2nd century. World War I get to see.
Absolutely wonderful experience. The staff on board (Torst and Marin?) were delightful and so good at their jobs. They made sure everyone felt included, often moving from person to person and engaging them in conversation about Norway and travel. They gave several informative talks, including some about the history of the ship, biology of white-tailed eagles (which we saw hunting by the ship), and some local WWII history. They also ensured each guest was comfortable, providing insulated jumpsuits, blankets, and a delicious hot black currant juice. The suits did a good job at keeping us warm, but there was also an indoor area for guests to warm up if needed. The scenery was fantastic as well. This tour is well worth the time!
Incredible trip in the glowing darkness, covered in snow, in a beautiful old wooden boat. Our guides were superb, thank you, so informative every step of the way. Grateful for the thermal suits. So much more interesting than we thought it would be. So lucky too to watch the eagles - wow.
Impressive boat in impressive surroundings with a dedicated crew. Loving hospitality, informative stories about Tromsø and the surrounding area.
