My wife and I did this tour pre-Covid. But I just ran into the old pictures and smiled at what a special afternoon experience we had on the Potter Tour! It is always a treat to find others who love the Wizarding World, which is one reason why this particular tour should be on your to-do list. Another reason is the dedication and clever wit of the guide, Sam. Finally, the personal touches were quirky and adorable, and my favorite memories of our Scotland vacation.
I'm so pleased you took a chance on me and glad a cheery memory endured. Thank you for this kind gift Greg 💞 May your robes seldom rumple & your cauldron never crack 😭 x Sam 🧙♂️
Sam is a potter fan like me and his knowledge is absolutely amazing, I had our granddaughter lily with us and she was absolutely in awe of Sam, he made it a lot of fun for the whole family and I think we will be doing the longer tour next time. There are many potter tours around but Sam is a true potter fan so look no further than Sam, 5 star tour
Cheers Kevin. The worry with preteens is my tours are such a long time listening they'll glaze over. Glad that wasn't the case. There are so many things to do in Edinburgh and the cost of accommodation is so much, it really pleases me when my tour is considered worthy. Thanks, Kevin and Alison and Lily and coven. I'd wish you McGonagall's fist of iron & Hagrid's glowing heart 💖 But you already have it. So I'll wish you his larder instead. Pumpkins the size of Lily! x Sam
Sam's Harry Potter Tour was a lot of fun for our family. We were able to see parts of Edinburgh that we likely wouldn't have explored on our own. He kept the kids engaged throughout the tour. The only critique is that Sam speaks really quickly so keeping up what he's saying while noisy vehicles are passing can be difficult at times. Overall, very knowledgeable and interesting tour. We definitely learned a lot!
Yes, it's a really really really quick tour for kids, 'Potter in a heartbeat', so they need to be Potter-reading literati, or they won't be aware, after all that money, that they went on one 🤦 In fact when I arrive to greet a tour, if I see a child without a monocle I'm like... 'this doesn't feel good' 🧐 But I figure it's like playing a Quidditch International in the January snow, having forgotten your Googles; it's going to be hard for them, perilous most likely, but memorable for the pain of it all 😣 Thanks for choosing me Michelle & for the kind review & enduring my Firebolt gabble 🙌 May your broomstick slice headwinds like a wand through pixie butter 😌 x Sam
What we loved about this tour was how fully Sam brought us into the world of JK Rowling while sharing the well known and lesser known places around Old Town. Sam is a wealth of information about not only the work of Rowling but also many other Scottish writers and the city itself. But he didn’t just feed us information as we explored Edinburgh for 5+ hours, he told stories, did magic tricks, and invited us into the experience through some role playing. He even surprised us with treats like chocolate frogs, sherbet lemons (Dumbledore’s favorites) and a stop for butter beer. A five hour tour isn’t for the week of heart or soft of foot but if you want a genuinely unique and memorable experience this tour is a must. My wife and I took our two teenage kids along with us and they had a great time. Having a few people up to speed on the series is very helpful and makes the time a lot more enjoyable and relatable. We were only in Edinburgh for five days but it was our favorite experience of our time in the city. Eight thumbs up!!!
Thanks Rob! Yes, I want pilgrims to have Rowling's view of the world. I want them to understand what excites, moves & drives her today, decades after her flight from the cupboard. And I have to point out some features along the way or I'd be remiss 🤷 I sent your review to my Mum 🦉 it's been a pandemic since I've been graced by one so articulate; Mum quizzed me on you. Thanks so much Rob. May your self-writing Quill never flag & your Mandrakes forever flourish 🫚 » ✨ » 🪴
This tour was absolutely fantastic! Besides getting to walk around Edinburgh to take in the sights, Sam put so much effort into this tour to learn about JK Rowling and her affiliation with Edinburgh. He paid so much attention to detail to make it feel so magical and to make you a part of it all. We even got sorted into our houses! We enjoyed every minute of it. It was truly captivating and insightful. I would 100% recommend this tour.
Merlin be saved! Thank you Naresar, that means a lot, my marathon-long private tours do not run every day. They're sooo long the MOM should probably issue an Order of Merlin third class to anyone who completes them. I'll petition them, but they'll probably just say that's MACUSA's business 😪 It perhaps helped me that Rowling's family could key into your profession a little. A happy thing when that happens. Thanks for the kind review, doesn't happen every day. Much appreciated 💞 May your hat be forever crooked & your broomstick fly true 😄 x Sam
Sam possesses a vast amount of knowledge on both Harry Potter and the history and culture of Edinburgh and his enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge in a fun manner. This is not an ordinary touristic tour but a genuine EXPERIENCE you will not forget with a unique individual. Not to be missed.
Thanks Anton! So happy you chose me 🙌 It most definitely helped that you were keenly interested, creates the disposition to best enjoy a long, detailed tour. Also helps you're open-hearted, the world isn't short of Dursleys and when you say 'individual' veins begin to throb! May your hair crackle with 1000 brilliant thoughts⚡️, and your adventures fizz like Lockharts. 😘 Sam ϟ
Sam was brilliant! My 9 year old thoroughly enjoyed the tour! She had a great time. I would certainly recommend it
Cheers, I'm so pleased. The length of that tour, all my tours really, is demanding for pre-teens, basically a near non-stop verbal novella in 5½ hours, so I'm gladdened it's remembered happily. You were good sports too. I wish you McGonagall's fists of iron and Hagrid's glowing heart. And immune system... pretty indestructible I'd say. x Sam
My complete Potterhead daughter and I attended this Harry Potter tour in Edinburgh as a reward for hard work on her 11+ exams. I cannot say enough about how much time and effort Sam puts into bringing the books to life, and really showing how JK Rowling drew inspiration from the sights, sounds and history of Edinburgh. I found the experience really inspiring and we learned a tremendous amount, not just about Harry Potter but about Edinburgh's history. Highly recommend!
Ah thanks Rachel, that's really sweet of you. Yes it's been a privellege to have customers like you, trying to give their charge the best experience. I've had some Dutch ones too, a Hermione last weekend. Occassionally I get the parents who try and lean into their kids interest before they've finished the books, and my heart grieves, the tour has so many spoilers and I'm too dunder-headed to catch them all, or many, or any. Arrg. So far as 'beyond Potter' activities go, visiting Edinburgh should be the capstone experience, so I stick with the non-commercial length, in fact make it longer & ever more non-commerical, passionate Potterheads are the folk it's most fun to serve. Yes Rowling has written a few inspirational things and done more, she's been called on to be a role model and rises to it often, in so many different fields. So I try to include that. Most likely having paid more tax than any other individual in British history she's also keeping our poor abused politicians out off the doghouse (their doghouses are probably built from iPads mind). Thanks for writing such a heartening review Rachel. If I ever do leaflets again, I'll include your review; I'm gratified you chose me, you are a blessing. May your Patronus never dim and your potions always shimmer X Sam.
Sam was AMAZING! We did the tour with kids and adults, and he was great for both. His knowledge of JK Rowling is phenomenal. His creativity with the kids is astounding. He did speak a bit fast, but more to get in all the information and answer all of the questions we asked. The sorting hat at the beginning was great too! Kids were ages 4-12, and they all loved it!!!!! I recommend this tour to anyone who is a Harry Potter fan!!!!!
Thankyou Smuty. I'm so pleased, it always irked me that Harry Potter was classified kids books, Rowling herself said she never wrote down to them you just can't have se-x near unicorns because that would be tacky. So I wrote a more adult tour, addressing some of the weightier topics. I'm gladdened that it keeps kids engaged. Rowling said the books helped kids "try on other people's ideas... send their minds where their bodies are not yet mature enough to go." I'll pass your compliment along to the hat. Put it on the radiator so it can enjoy a good toast. It'll be overjoyed. Over summer it almost put one 5 year old in tears (wrong house apparently). The hat got packed away to the bottom of my freezer. That'll teach it for trying to build resilience. Lousy hat. Thanks for a wonderfully enthused review, x Sam
I got this tour as a gift for my sister and two of her friends for her birthday. They are all Harry Potter mad and know every detail of the books and films. It was a challenge that Sam accepted to treat the girls to a fact filled tour that was fun and full of laughs along the way. My sister loved the tour and had such a good time they want to go back and do it all over again! They were all out facted by Sam who’s knowledge was amazing. If you are Harry Potter mad or just someone who is looking to have a fun tour in Edinburgh then I highly recommend this tour. Thank you Sam for making sure my sisters birthday present was so special and one to remember!
Oh you're welcome, I'm so pleased it paid off. I think unusual experiences make great gifts, do something different and add a bit of texture to your memories so it doesn't all fly by. Your sister doesn't have the Bellatrix of siblings. May your flick and swish always give you bliss x Sam.
