Train was brilliant we sat in 2nd class reserved which was perfect with windows open and great view! Wr also had a driver take us the rest of the way from ambewella to kandy as the line is closed. Am Indika was brilliant driver pointing out things and making the journey enjoyable thank you!

We had already purchased the tickets well in time, but because of the heavy rain in November, part of the route was impassable. Mahaweli made sure that the tickets were rebooked and that we could still make part of this beautiful train journey. Top service!
The organization arranged train tickets for me from Ambewela to Ella. Because the train tracks were damaged between Kandi and Ambewela they had arranged a taxi. Everything was fine and taxi ride went smoothly.
After the train journey from Ella to Kandi could not be carried out due to the cyclone, the amount already paid was refunded to me without complications. Thank you for that.

Very beautiful trip! Also, we got a fantastic reception from the staff when we had problems with the booking. Unfortunately it got a bit too dark to see the last leg so I recommend an early start.
The train journey used to be a real highlight: you sat with the locals, got into conversation with them, the doors were open and not besieged....nowadays, on the other hand, it is already an art to get a ticket, the trains are full, only with tourists and unfortunately some of the mostly young people are not respectful or very assertive when they sit in wrong seats. I think the charm of this ride is gone.
We used Mahaweli Tours & Holidays to book our train tickets from Kandy to Ella, as well as all our private transfer vans around the island for our group of 6–8. Everything was perfectly organised – very reliable, always punctual, and they even messaged us the night before each transfer to confirm pickup times. Communication was super easy via WhatsApp, and responses were always quick. The prices were very fair, and the drivers were excellent – safe, friendly, and dependable. A special mention to Sachin, who was fantastic. A big thank you to Bawantha, who helped us arrange everything so smoothly. Highly recommend this company if you want stress-free travel around Sri Lanka!
