I worked wit Tou and the head chef to create a soup, salad, main and dessert. It was fun! Tou showed me all of the gardens and fresh items they grow year round. Was fun to learn new techniques. Thanks!
Fantastic experience with friendly and knowledgeable people. The chef and translator Tu make an excellent team. Food was delicious and so happy to have learned the secrets behind the fresh recipes. Location is very nice, Road to get there is not, you might think your lost but perseverance pays off when you arrive at Namkhan. Great evening highly recommend 👌
I recommend this highly. We've taken cooking classes in a number of countries, and this was one of the best. We were fortunate to do it in the low season, so it was just us, a chef and a translator. We picked the veggies in the eco-resort garden, mashed them up in mortar and pestles, and cooked some of the best food we had in our three-week, five country Asian trip. Really a terrific experience.
We were just with the 2 of us, nobody else. The chef didn't speak English, so there was a translator, which made the direct contact with the chef rather difficult. We started with picking veggies from the garden. We had a choice between tofu, fish, chicken and pork. We made a mushroom soup with marinated tofu, a papaya salad and laab. Finally, the food was served in the restaurant. We liked the atmosphere and the chef and Mr Tu were very kind and helpful, however we felt that the learning factor was a bit low and the price (116 $) was on the high side taking into account that we paid for drinks and transport as well. To summarise, an English speaking chef would be preferable and the price was a bit high.
Fantastic cooking course. Carried it out even though I was just one person, not a given at all (my own private class!) The course started promptly on the beautiful grounds of The Namkhan Ecolodge. The chef was joined by a translator to make sure I could understand all she had to share! We did a tour of the organic gardens, the composting area, chicken huts, and even a mushroom greenhouse, my very first! I picked my own mushrooms and vegetables, and even the ginger! We cooked together and made wonderful, authentic dishes, which i will definitely make again. Definitely enjoyed, worth a go!
The experience is amazing from learning how to pick different vegetables, clean & wash to cooking. Guide speaks amazing English and explaining the Laos culture. Cooks are nice and General Manager - Carl always check on your satisfaction.
Sabaidee CurtisC, belated thanks your visit and cooking class with us. Very pleased our Organic Farm portion was welcomed to. See you both on your next visit to Luang Prabang. Carl & team
we ernjoyed the cooking class during our stay at the lodge, was great fun, picked most of the vegetables directly on the farm, local chef who showed us all kind of tricks
Dear Michael, Greetings from The Namkhan! Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with us. Hope to see you again in near future. Kind regards, Pann
This cooking class is different from others, as the venue where this is done is an EcoLodge, where they have their own organic farm. So before you start cooking, you'll get a tour of the area and they explain how to maintain and manage their organic farm. You'll pick the ingredients needed for the cooking straight from the ground, plants or trees, which is quite nice in my opinion. After you've gathered all the ingredients, the cooking commences and I ended up cooking 4/5 different dishes. The guidance was great, friendly people all around and the food tasted great as well, mostly thanks to the chef :)
Dear Frenken, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We are pleased to read you and note that you enjoy the cooking class experience with us at NamKhan Ecolodge. Chef Noy is indeed a great teacher and can make dishes out of the organic farm as it is in Lao Culture. Wishing you pleasant travels ! Kind regards, Saita
