The tour was ok and started well, with the first food stop being delicious. However at the 2nd stop a long monologue on how the guide was paid and hints towards the expected tip was not appreciated, particularly on a hot day in a hot restuarant with no air, which was a shame because the food was amazing, and we wouldn't have tasted this if solo. The last stop, Indian was 2 types of bread and some very watery curry samples to dip, no meet or rice, it wasn't great. We enjoyed parts but it did seem very expensive for what it was.
Dear Ian, Thank you for sharing this so honestly. We are glad the first stop made a strong impression and that the tour introduced you to food you would not have found on your own. That is exactly what a Withlocals experience should feel like. That said, we are sorry the second stop overshadowed things. A guide discussing their pay and hinting at tips is not something we consider appropriate, and we will be addressing this directly. Our guests should feel relaxed and fully present in the experience, not uncomfortable. Your feedback on the final stop is also noted and will be passed on to help refine the itinerary. We had seven tastings during our tour of popular places around the Central Market and Jalan Petaling area. We tried dishes that we would not have known about and enjoyed our guide's company very much. I'm sure if we had had bigger appetites we could have tried more and if it had been less hot (he gave us a couple of fans which helped). The claypot coffee was a highlight and made up for some dishes that were too spicy for some of us
Fantastic introduction to Kuala Lumpur food and with a fantastic lady Manjeet who was a wonderful very knowledgeable host. I learnt about how their dishes are a blend of Indian Malaysian and Chinese influence and tasted fantastic food in authentic settings. We eve. Went on the train to sample an Indian restaurant that made their curry with noodles. Only issue is when you are just one person too much food. It was a wonderful start to my holiday and Manjet was lovely company. Highly recommend this tour
Excellent food tour with knowledgable and engaging guide. Not too far to walk between stops and we tasted a wide range of well chosen dishes. Recommend this to anyone who wants to experience real local food.
Tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Food was excellent and pace was perfect. Great in a group or solo!
We had a great experience. Guide was wonderful. He explained out the malaysian influences in food. We walked to a couple of spots. Nothing too hard. He explained the history of KLM and showed us sites along the way. The food was incredable. We ventured back to one of the eateries the next day. Very informative and enjoyable experience. Our guide met us at our prearranged meeting point at the time agreed. He guided us through. 10 tastings of local specialties with a good knowledge of what and where to purchase the best quality product. He was very attentive to my wife who had didn’t feel perfect after suffering jet lag. All in all a 5 star experience
Great experience. The guide curated a variety ofspecial dishes to taste. Several Malaysian dishes, a couple Indian and a couple of Chinese. There was more food than I could eat, and I ended up carrying some of it back to the hotel. Faris was very knowledgeable about food and provided a wealth of background information on each dish.
Zach absolutely made our KL trip! This guy's a former chef and it totally shows - he took us on an incredible food tour to the places that we never would've found on our own. We're talking amazing street food at spots only locals know about. Everything was delicious and stuff we definitely wouldn't have been brave enough to try without him. But it's not just about the food - Zach's also really into history and shared tons of cool stories about the city and the different neighborhoods we visited. He's super friendly and easy to hang out with, just felt like exploring the city with a knowledgeable friend. If you're a foodie visiting Kuala Lumpur, you absolutely need to book Zach. Hands down the highlight of our trip!
Excellent range of different food styles. Guide was very knowledgeable about local history and how the Indian/Malay and Chinese cultures combine. Worth the visit!
