It was awesome to make it to Troy. Everyone was great getting us there and back safely and our tour of Troy was wonderful. Be prepared for a full day of travel. It is a long drive to Troy. The rest stops were nice and going across the Dardinelles by ferry was beautiful. Great site but a real effort to see Troy!!
Dear Sir, Greetings from Karavan Travel Istanbul. Thank you very much for your kind review towards the tour which was operated by Karavan Travel. Nice to host you in Turkey and hoping to serve you in the future again. Best Regards, Nathan.
This day trip is well organized. They promptly pick you up early in the morning before embarking on the long drive to Troy. Once at Troy you get a guide to explain the history of the archeological sight. The information and history is interesting, but overall there is not a whole lot to do and see. This trip is good for the true history buffs that have an interest in ancient Greece and ancient Rome.
I had to come on this tour and am glad I did. I have always wanted to visit Troy and this one day excursion from Istanbul is an easy way to see the site. I didn't want to spend several days in the area. (Others went on a two day tour which included the WW1 sights at Gallipoli). Why go ? Because you've read Homer and want to see where it all happened. Why not go ? It's a long drive - over 5 hours there and a little less (traffic) back to your hotel. You leave around 0630 and return beteeen 2230 and 2300 - traffic permitting. Time in Troy 2-3 hours, which is plenty unless you're a fanatic. Day includes plenty (not too many) food and toilet stops, 2 ferry trips scross the Dardanelles. Troy is a moderately interesting archaeological site - nine cities on top of each other, abandoned 1500 yesrs sgo, vandalised by German archaeologists 150 years ago and handled more carefully since then. A new and significant artefact museum is due to open later in 2018 ('in a few weeks' we were told) which will significantly increase the detail you can see. If you're struggling with what excursions to choose from Istanbul ... I woud overall give this an average rank. Different prices through different agencies for the same tour so shop around a little. I found my €75 including lunch reasonable value for money.

The trip was well organised and i was prepared for the 5 hour road trip to get there, however i found that after we linked up our guild he was telling the driver to slow down so he could tell the story of troy which at first i thought would be ok however he would tell half a story then go off on a tangent about something else and get confused so imparted no knowledge. This all ate into the time we could spend at the site which was already limited due to the long drive. I feel we wasted time on the way there and by visiting some shed on the way which all of the group were confused by, i would have much preferred more free time at the site as by the end we were only allowed 10 minuets which was just enough time to use the rest rooms and take one photo.

It is a very long way to travel. The guides are good and the drivers are careful. The let down was the very basic lunch provided and the meals at the comfort stops on the way to and from.

This tour to Troy was an amazing experience, we travelled in April 2017. It was well organised, comfortable transport and fabulous lunch!
The Tour Guide was very informative and helpful. It was a small group and we were giving reasonable time for all the activities, shopping and photos sessions. Always take a light jacket during the cruise is a bit windy and cold.
The transport was very comfortable and they accommodate all our needs on the way to the historical site.
This part of Turkey is a must do.... the views are amazing and everything is cheaper than in Istanbul. Food was absolutely lovely!
Turkey is an amazing country, lovely food, friendly people and they are very helpful.

A must when in Turkey. Emre our guide was very knowledgable and the whole day was filled with wonder of Turkish rural areas and of course the rich and wonderful history around Troy.
