En mangfoldig række kender Kartli-regionen af kulturelle steder, herunder flere historiske, kulturelle og landskaber. Siden den første halvdel af det tredje årtusinde f.Kr., dateres området fra klassisk til middelalder, inklusive og ændret flere gange. Regionen var hjemsted for guder og deres jordiske legemliggørelse - præster, høvdinge og konger. Hvert lag af jorden holder et minde om epoker. Regionen stod over kulturernes skillevej. Betydningen af denne arterielle vej var at forbinde øst og vest. Den stenede vej bevarer stadig et tydeligt spor af hjultransport, der bevæger sig her gennem århundreder. Regionen var fra tid til anden styret af mithraisme eller zoroastrianisme. Suveræne præster udførte hedenske ritualer her. På dette alter ofrede de, forherligede kvindelig guddommelighed, tændte kristtorn. Fortsættes under turen.

11:00 Ankomst til Uplistsikhe. Uplistsikhe er en antik klippehugget by i det østlige Georgia. Det blev bygget på en venstre bred af Mtkvari-floden, indeholder flere strukturer fra den tidlige jernalder til den sene middelalder, og er kendt for den unikke blanding af forskellige klippeudskårne kulturer fra Anatolien og Iran sameksistens af hedensk og kristen arkitektur .
13:00 Ankomst til et frokoststed. Unik mulighed for at føle sig som indfødt. Besøg en lokal restaurant og nyd traditionel, lækker mad.
14:45 Ankomst til Stalin Museum. Stalin Museum er et museum dedikeret til Joseph Stalins liv, lederen af Sovjetunionen, som blev født i Gori. Museet bevarer sine sovjetiske karakteristika, Stalins originale hus og Stalins jernbanevogn. I tilfælde af fritid i Gori (valgfrit) Oplev byen Gori, befolket siden den tidlige bronzealder. Ifølge middelalderlige georgiske annaler grundlagde kong David IV Gori. Fæstningen Gori (Goris Tsikhe) ser ud til at have været i brug allerede i det 7. århundrede, og arkæologiske beviser indikerer et bysamfund i den klassiske oldtid. I den russisk-georgiske krig i 2008 kom byen under luftangreb fra det russiske luftvåben fra begyndelsen af konflikten.
16:35 Ankomst til Jvari Kloster. Navnet på dette kloster er oversat som "Korsets Kloster." Jvari-klosteret er det georgiske ortodokse kloster fra det 6. århundrede nær Mtskheta. Sammen med andre historiske strukturer i Mtskheta er det opført som et verdensarvssted af UNESCO. Jvari-klosteret står på den klippefyldte bjergtop ved sammenløbet af floderne Mtkvari og Aragvi, med udsigt over byen Mtskheta, som tidligere var hovedstaden i kongeriget Iberia.
17:25 Ankomst til Svetitskhoveli i Mtskheta. Mtskheta, en af de ældste byer i Georgien, blev grundlagt af de gamle meschianske stammer i det 5. århundrede. UNESCO anerkender det som et verdensarvssted på grund af dets historiske betydning og adskillige kulturelle monumenter. Det var hovedstaden i det tidlige georgiske kongerige Iberia fra det 3. århundrede f.Kr. til det 5. århundrede e.Kr. Men Mtskheta forblev at tjene som kronings- og begravelsessted for de fleste konger af Georgien indtil det 19. århundrede. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (bogstaveligt talt Cathedral of the Living Pillar) er i øjeblikket den næststørste kirke i Georgien (efter Holy Trinity Cathedral). I really enjoy this trip. Salome is clearly a history buff; I learnt a lot from her. A patriotic Sakartvelorian 😉, her talks were both informative and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the cave city, Uplistsikhe, and Svetitskhoveli cathedral. When I needed a break, we were given free time. I tried pomegranate ice cream and the local wine. I was worried that the day would be too long, but we finished slightly earlier, and we still had ample time to explore. Our driver Gochi was a perfect gentleman. The driving in Georgia is pretty wild, but he navigates the roads like a pro.

We had an amazing time during this tour, specifically because the tour incorporated so many different aspects of Georgian history/culture, we really got a wide insight into this amazing country. From the ancient culture at Uplistsikhe, to the Stalin museum and finally the two absolutely gorgeous monasteries at Mtskheta, we were able to absorb so much. Our guide, Nika, had incredible English and was extremely knowledgeable about every subject he was taking to us about, so his presence really enriched our experience. We can't wait to continue exploring Georgia!
We had an amazing time on the trip to Uplistsikhe, Gori and Mtskheta with our guide Nika! We had just enough time to explore the places by ourselves after Nika's thoughtful explanation. Each place felt unique and our day was filled with history and culture background of Georgia. We appreciated that Nika was our guide in the Stalin Museum as well, so it didnt't feel rushed going through the periods of his life - from birth to death. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in these places!
It was very successful, the guide explained extensively in place, wherever we visited he first explained, then also gave us free time, I felt really good, the guy had answers to everything, and said it was politically sensitive not going into it (as happened to me on other trips)
