The lady in charge of the scavenger hunt started off strong with contacting us the day before; asking to use WhatsApp. Through app texted us prior to game asking if we were ready. Then when the time came she did not show up at the meeting point with no communication from her until hours after, and not responding to our texts. She never led us to believe that it was not canceled before hand. We never saw other players at the meeting point as well. As a scavenger hunt it says players; that if there were not enough participants then it would be rescheduled or suggested to move the game time. Never were we straight up asked to change game time. Hours later when she did respond she was apologetic, explained her phone was misplaced. Gave no issues when requesting a refund. Over all just disappointed.
I do sincerely apologize( and did so directly to this guest). This is not the experience i want those to have who have trusted me with their vacation time. I have been a tour guide for over 25 years and I am well aware how crucial it is to always be on time. Yet, life happens and my phone was temporarily misplaced. I would say something like this happens less than 1% of the time. I fully understand this guest being upset and disappointed. I did offer an immediate refund, which i sent and also the opportunity to do the hunt free the next day, which the guest declined.
Not what we were expecting for a “scavenger hunt” that we were hoping would get us acquainted with downtown Kona’s scenery. Instead of finding statues, buildings or landmarks with fun clues, it felt more like homework. I am an introverted person and was not thrilled when 85% of the tasks were to go talk to strangers. It would have been fun to have a real clue about places to go rather than “do a random act of kindness”. Not the activity for us.
It is true that this scavenger hunt is very non traditional with no math, geocaching or gps points. Instead it has creative challenges, social experimentation and being detectives on the hunt for local stories. My games are designed to allow real opportunities to connect with friendly locals( I recommend what i call the vibe test first) and have meaningful interactions. This can be the most valuable part of the experience for many or even most of my hunters. It is true that coming to a place as a tourist and thinking of how you can do a random act of kindness is a powerful way to get to know a place. I understand it can be challenging in a new way and every hunter is told its ok if they want to skip something. People also choose which order to do the clues so you can definately start with the creative non social ones.I am sorry this guest didnt enjoy the adventure as much as I hope all my guests do but I will admit its not for everyone. If you want to book I would love to host you but come with an open mind for something new.
Tara’s Creative Soul scavenger hunt in Kona was a highlight of our vacation. It made visiting Kona a fun experience when we first read about the “hunt” we were a bit apprehensive about reaching out to a stranger to guide us on an unknown adventure. Tara’s friendly, playful, and supportive demeanor quickly put us at ease. The scavenger hunt questions were thoughtful and creative. We would recommend this adventure to anyone who wants to spend a playful day in Kona.
So fun to host you ladies on my hunt.. its great for any age hunter up for something new!
This was so fun! We raced parents vs teens with a pretty motivating bet. Both teams worked hard and had a blast. The race was thoughtful and we all came out of it feeling really great about the whole experience! Highly recommend for a fun way to spend the morning in kona with teens!!

Loved learning about the history of Kona, HI via locals. I heard bits and pieces during our stay, and this experience brought it all together.

I can only give this 2 stars for flexibility of date/time change, fast communication. Notes, DO NOT go on other activities of the day if you book this game. I booked this game for a wrong date accidentally; texted Tara the host at 2 AM Hawaii time due to my California time jet lag. She seemed upset that she had to respond to my message when she just woke up at 6am her time…that’s nice of her but I didn’t think she’d respond right away, then said she isn’t open to answering calls, emphasizing most business opens at 9am :/ I mean my bad. However, my mistake for booking a 3 hours snorkeling and kayaking for all morning that date and somehow the time alignment with this game was off. On Viator said 2:30pm and misunderstanding between me and Tara created more complications, so I didn’t feel like participating this game anymore and didn’t get a refund either. For a business perspective, I understand Tara frustration with me changing the date and the time last minute but Tara isn’t in Kona. She remotely directs this game via WhatsApp. What a smart way to earn money really. If you decide to book this, just be careful on booking the date & time correctly. I think you’ll have a very good time. Just don’t be like me LOL.
This booking with Tammy Tran went poorly from the beginning when she booked the wrong date and felt the need to call me(yes it was a phone call and several texts) in the middle of the night to change it. Of course I was scared it was a family emergency to be shocked awake.. when i found out it was just to ask for a free date change, i did accommadate her but told her I could do noon the next day.She agreed and i rearranged my schedule.. while its true i host my games remotely I do set aside two hours for each game as I am a game show host in your pocket and interact the whole time with the guests. She then asked me to start at 2.30, and once again I rearranged my schedule to suit her. 20 minutes before the game start she canceled! so, no, no refund would be offered. I have to say i do love my work.. i love hosting scavenger hunts. I love sharing amazing places with my hunters. but a guest like this is really discouraging to me.. not only did i change the schedule for her twice, got a call in the middle of the night, but she felt she needed to try to harm my business with a 2 star review for a scavenger hunt she never did.
We enjoyed finding the information about the Palace, the statue and a mural. Creating a decoration out of natural items was a challenge!

This scavenger hunt was creatively thought out and mixes history with modern. Loved the interaction from our curator along the way. Definitely a must on your next Kona adventure!
