Chateau Gaillard Royal Domain Adgangskort

I dont understand all the high reviews. This seems to be a private owned château open ti the public to collect money for their personal use. While the gardens may have been impressive during the king's day they have a long way to go to be on such a high listing. You can only tour the bottom floor of the château so I'm not sure if the second is private quartier or not renovated yet. From the rénovation photos it seems it was restored. This château seems like a work in progress, especially the garden, and should be half the price . Chennanceou is so much nicer and the same price

Magnificent, very intimate castle, very pleasant to visit with a very competent guide (Irina). It is very well furnished in every room. Mary Stuart's room is remarkable. The very strong points of this site are the gardens filled with symbols, beautifully maintained with a conservatory of orange and lemon trees. A special mention for Laurence, the person at the catering site, who makes very, very good fresh fruit juices. She is energetic and very pleasant. Warning: big alert regarding her jams: they are delicious😉

Excellent moment. We stayed for 4 hours. A warm welcome at the ticket office as well as at the food corner. Dishes made with quality products. A smiling, accessible, and inventive guide, for a most enjoyable participatory visit. We were able to stroll through the park and the castle at our leisure. A place unknown to the general public, but which deserves a detour. Congratulations to the owners for the restoration work both in the castle and in the park. And congratulations to all the staff who bring this place to life.

A very interesting visit, both inside and outside. And as for the tea room, it was a delightful moment: an incredible orange cake enjoyed on the terrace, accompanied by freshly squeezed citrus juice!

This is the second time we visit this castle it is a peaceful and very beautiful place with little attendance. I love this place

Beautiful place steeped in history that today's guide April 15, 2026 made clear to adults and children attentive and curious. Knowing how to recognize educated, respectful children would have allowed the guide to make the visit more enjoyable for visitors.

This is a château that until several years ago was in a state of ruin. When you read how a business man in love with Renaissance architecture in the Loire first heard about it, drove down from Paris two days later, purchased it, then spent years authentically restoring it, you can’t help but be fascinated! This is where the first oranges were grown in France, where the children of Catherine de Medici played in the vast gardens, and where Marie Stuart spent her honeymoon and first years of marriage. It is built into a mountain, has several troglos and a rich history. We hadn’t even heard about it until we saw a sign. It is literally a 15-20 minute walk from Chateau Amboise, A big thank you to EVELYNE, who enthralled us with so many amazing details as we purchased our tickets that we were fascinated even before we stepped inside. It’s a great story and a must see. The introductory room shows all the restoration work, before and after photos, the number of artisans…the original real estate for sale flier stating that ‘serious work’ (des lourds travaux) should be expected! We were very impressed with the work on the restoration! We are fans of Maria Stuart and we became so aware of it. Great park. A hidden gem!
