Besøg Volcan Wines og dets vinmuseum, der ligger i Vothonas, Santorini, på vejen til Kamari Beach. Denne charmerende familievirksomhed har været i drift siden 1880. Mens moderne rustfrit stålmaskiner har erstattet traditionelle træværktøjer, produceres vinen stadig i en klassisk stil. Faciliteten har et imponerende underjordisk museum, der ligger 8 meter under overfladen og strækker sig 300 meter i længden. Det viser historien om vin og livet for Santorinis bønder fra 1660 til 1950 gennem levende udstillinger, animatronik og en automatisk lydturné.

Vinmuseet ligger i en naturlig hule otte meter under jorden. Det er den eneste af sin slags i Grækenland, og det tog Koutsoyannopoulos familien, den fjerde generation vinproducenter, 21 år at bygge det. Besøgende på museet har mulighed for at lære om vinens historie og liv i Santorini siden 1660'erne gennem en automatisk lyd Vejleder, der findes på 14 sprog eller en guide, der findes på 22 sprog. Ved afslutningen af turen, er vine produceret i Koutsoyannopoulos vingård til rådighed for smagning i vingårdens smagsrum.

Very nice visit followed by a tasting of excellent wines. An astonishingly dense museum; explanations about the unique viticulture techniques of Santorini. Our tasting guide, Angela, was lovely and shared many restaurant recommendations on the island with us.
The Cave museum is self guided with audio devices rather than a tour, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5. If you love antiques and winemakers history, this is an interesting walk through. Wine tasting after the tour was fun and interactive. A nice way to use 2 hours in Santorini.
At the end of April 2026, we didn't need to book. Coming from Fira, this is the road to the airport. The museum is about 2 km away. The KTEL bus can drop us off on request, if not too many people. Several tasting packages of good local wine, of choice. Very clean, well organized, fun and informative museum. Very welcoming and professional staff. It's worth a visit and we can ask for a taxi back...
This tour is a must do! The way the museum is layed out provides a visual lens of how wine production was made and the transition from primitive to modern production. The wine tasting was also a good touch to cap off the tour. Delicious!
This was very informative, the wine was good, but pretty short. You were also your own tour guide, with speaker. Could have been better, but not bad.
We did the self guided tour of the museum which gave us the opportunity to go at our own pace. The wine tasting was good. The only negative is that we weren’t sure when and how to be picked up once completed. I called the Viator company and they had someone come quite quickly which was nice.
Base price was €20 per person for entry, no discount for older Australians, didn’t go in. One good note, is that the local bus that runs between Fira and Kamera beach will drop you almost 100 m flat walk, cost for the additional stop is another €1.60 one way per person.

We had a wonderful time with Banos and Anna! They were very sweet and knowledgeable about the history and culture. They were extremely accommodating! We would highly recommend them!!
