We were disappointed with this trip. Our guide was very personable, but important information was not always communicated as far in advance as we would have liked. Things like, where, when, and how long the lunch break would be, and where the best place to buy souveniers was often came after decisions had already been made. Also, the train ride was very diappointing. To be fair it was a drizzly, cloudy day so the visibility was poor, and that's clearly not the tour's fault. However, for 90% of the 25 minute train ride all you could see was trees and brush right at the edge of the tracks. Finally, we were disappointed by the very cramped bus. Maybe it would be better with a partially filled bus, but we had a full bus and it seemed like we were sitting on top of each other. For the people in the back row, that was literally the case. We some some beautiful countryside and learned a lot about Wales. The guide was informative and engaging. But overall we were disappointed.
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, John. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful Welsh countryside, found your guide engaging, and felt they were personable throughout the day. We’re sorry, however, that some aspects of the experience left you disappointed. We appreciate your comments regarding communication around the lunch stop and opportunities to purchase souvenirs. We aim to make the day as clear and well-paced as possible, with the full itinerary published on all our product listings prior to purchase. That said, your feedback is helpful in highlighting more ways where we can improve how and when we share this information with guests. The Brecon Mountain Railway is operated independently by the railway company, and the views from the train can naturally vary depending on weather conditions. On the day of your visit, the cloudy and drizzly weather will certainly have affected visibility, although we appreciate that this doesn't change your experience of the journey itself. Our tours operate using a 16-seat minicoach, and we were travelling with 15 guests on this departure, which is within its designed passenger capacity. We understand that a full vehicle can feel more confined, particularly for passengers seated in the rear, and we’re sorry this affected your enjoyment of the day. We’re glad there were still aspects of the tour you enjoyed, particularly the scenery and learning more about Wales. We genuinely value your feedback and will take your comments on board as we continue to refine the experience we provide.
Highlights for me were the steam railway 🚂, panoramic views in the Brecon Beacons national Park and an opportunity to walk in the park, experiencing the vast expanse and beauty of Wales’ natural heritage. The stops are all long enough for you to do as much as possible, so no need to feel rushed. Also not an excessive amount of time sitting in the bus. The tour also includes Caerphilly Castle which is a must-see, but was less of a thing for me as I’d been into the castle a couple of days before.
What a lovely review. Thank you! It sounds like you made the most of the day, from the steam railway and spectacular Brecon Beacons scenery to getting out and enjoying the landscape on foot. Particularly pleased you found the pace comfortable, with plenty of time at the stops without spending too much of the day on the road. And yes, Caerphilly Castle is certainly a must-see, even if you’d already had the chance to explore it! See you again soon on another Welsh adventure.
Our guide, Chris, was great. (And great job by our driver.) Chris gave a lot of good information. He also was clear in instructions of meeting times and places. I enjoyed touring Caerphilly Castle and the train ride to Brecon Beacons National Park. The stop at the visitor center was nice and relaxing with beautiful scenery. In Brecon, the hamburger and lamb burger street stand from Easts was very good! It was a very enjoyable day.
It was a great day, Valerie. Our Castles, Mountains and Railways tour is one of the best and I'm so glad you could join us and enjoyed the day. Appreciate the feedback.
The itinerary is a great mix of castle, train, countryside and small town. I would just do it with another provider. The staff transportation provided was NOT comfortable. The vehicle was a sort of minivan-wants-to-be-a-bus thing. It was full, claustrophobic and cramped. The train was worse. It was presented that having the caboose for our group was a treat. It was awful. We were crammed in on benches facing the middle of the car. Im small and even I had to turn my shoulders little sideways to fit in. With the window sill dabbing into my back. You were trying to look out the windows opposite around those people's heads. No way to take pictures. It would have been a lovely train ride in one of the regular cars. I have taken alot of Viator tours over many years. This tour guide was pleasant but gave about half as much information as usual.
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, Judy. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed the overall mix of castles, the railway, countryside and Brecon, and that you found your guide pleasant. We're sorry, however, that the experience didn't meet your expectations in terms of comfort. Our tours are operated in small groups, although we appreciate that a full vehicle can feel less spacious than you may have liked or expected. The Brecon Mountain Railway carriage is a heritage railway experience, and the carriage allocation can vary depending on the railway's operational arrangements on the day. We understand that the seating arrangement in the carriage provided wasn't to your preference, particularly when taking photographs, and we're sorry you found this uncomfortable. Your feedback here is valuable and will be shared with our team as we continually look for ways to improve the experience we provide.
Our Guide was passionate about Wales, and his enthusiasm really enriched our experience. Of Course Caerphilly Castle exceeded our expectations, the cute Steam Train was a fun ride and Brecon Beacons were great.
Pleasure to have you with us, Kelli. It was a fantastic day! Thanks for joining the tour and your lovely review.
Overall, it was a great and safe experience. Chris and Cathryn were amazing. Had a great networking experience. The places were incredible as well.
We are so lucky in Wales to have such welcoming attractions and beautiful landmarks. Great to hear you had a lovely day with us. Will be sure to pass on the feedback to the tour team on the day. Thanks for the review.
It was a brilliant tour with a fantastic guide. Went above and beyond when I left my cellphone behind. I was prepared to get off and they go on but they drove me back for it. The driver was a blast and easy to chat with. The locations were beautiful. I’d definitely go with them again.
Knowing Chris and Lisa as we do, we wouldn't expect anything else, Nicola - and I'm so pleased to hear you were able to recover your phone. Thank you so much for joining this Roam Wales tour. An absolute pleasure to have you with us.
We went on this trip with Roam Wales tiday. Our guide Chris was amazing and so knowledgeable. Our driver Lisa was fantastic too. Both so happy and obliging. The excursion was perfect, a good blend of walking, relaxing, seeing great sights and free time to export on our own. Would recommend Roam Wales to anyone travelling to Cardiff.
What a lovely review to read, Linda. Over the moon to hear you enjoyed your day with us. When I see Lisa and Chris later this week I'll be sure to pass on the feedback. Thanks again for joining the tour and the great recommendation to other guests.
As a couple travelling in Wales without a vehicle, this tour was a fantastic way for us to explore sights beyond Cardiff. The pick-up was centrally located and easy to find, and our tour guide was friendly and welcoming. On the tour, we had ample time to enjoy each stop, with a break for lunch, and numerous opportunities to get out and enjoy the sights. We particularly enjoy visiting the Brecon Beacons National Park, and this tour is a great way to see the park and experience the town of Brecon.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day also - and great to have you both with us. Thanks for joining and this fantastic feedback. Join us again soon!
Chris our guide was wonderful. Full of information and funny. The tour was nice and informative. Only gripe was that the bus was very small/tight for my husband who is 6’2”. Other than that, this was a fantastic day exploring Wales.
Pleased that you and your husband had a lovely time, Shawna. It was a fantastic day and great that you could join us. Thank you for the review, and wider feedback, which help us continually improve our tours of Wales. See you soon!
