Birding omkring Kigali er en introduktion til fuglelivet i Østafrika, da disse steder er en blanding af levesteder, herunder græsarealer, vådområder og søer (pande). Fugleture på et (eller alle) af de nævnte steder, er en introduktion til fugle i Rwanda, og du har også mulighed for at se sjældne fugle som White-collared Oliveback, Papyrus Gonolek og Papyrus Canary.

Vi har en 3 timers fugleture i Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-turisme Park primært for at se fugle. Nyandungu er et nyligt restaureret vådområde i Kigali City; Det ligger i 1,5 km fra Kigali International Airport og kun 25 minutters kørsel fra centrum. Over 100 fugle blev registreret i dette område blandt andre White-collared Oliveback, Yellow-breasted Apalis, dobbelt-tanded Barbet, osv.
Umusambi er et Kinyarwanda navn, der betyder Gra-krone Crane. Landsbyen er et nyoprettet fristed for at redde befolkningen af Gra-Crowned Crane fra den ulovlige kæledyrshandel. Med fordel af beskyttelsen af stedet kommer flere fugle til stedet for mad og reproduktion. Mange arter af Kingfisher dvs. Pied, Malachite og afrikansk Pygmy bruger skabt vand damme som en kilde til mad. Vi bruger 2 til 3 timer om morgenen på at tour rundt i helligdommen, før vi har vores frokostpause.
Vådområder i Bugesera, især Gashora vådområder, er hjemsted for papyrus og vandfuglearter. Disse steder er hjemsted for Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Carruthers Cisiticola og flokke af Glossy Ibis. Du kan have en morgen eller eftermiddag på dette sted for at se de mest vådland fugle i den østafrikanske region.

We had the chance to go on a birding tour in Kigali, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement. Our guide, Joseph, was amazing, so knowledgeable but most of all, incredibly passionate. His love for birds and conservation is truly contagious. We enjoyed spending the day with him and our driver, Alex, so so much. We only wished we had more time to absorb more knowledge. If you like birds, book this tour, you will not regret it. If you don’t like birds, you should also book this tour, I’m sure you’ll like them by the end. I can’t stress enough how amazing Joseph was. We are so happy we found this tour, and honestly can’t wait to come back and go birding with him again. We were able to identify over 60 different species of birds. Thank you so so much, we truly loved it.

The Guide is very knowledgable, he knows all the Bird names by heart, knows where to look for them and points out facts and behaviour. Wonderful landscape, too. Take a raincoat during rain season 🙃 Pick up, drop off and Lunch Break worked well, too.

Claudien proved to be a punctuel and seriously expert birder, equipped with quality binocs and scope and call recordings and deep familiarity with the species of the area. He is flexible and easy company. The urban wetland is perfect for birding: paved pathway cutting through marshes, ponds, and woodlands, litter'free, uncrowded, and secure.

This was an unplanned trip for me whilst at a conference in Kigali. I had an extra day free before heading back home. Claudien made himself available and organized a great day in the wetlands. We also talked a lot about life in Rwanda so it was more than just a birding trip. I highly recommend booking a trip with him.

I cannot recommend Birding and Educational Tours enough! The experience far exceeded my expectations. Claudien’s expertise in identification of local species, and knowledge of where to find them, was invaluable. We managed to see 69 different species including some rare sightings. Booking was easy, the tour started on time, lunch was lovely, and the birding locations were excellent. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to support a local business. Claudien went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get the most from the experience.

I had a great time with Claudien, a knowledgeable and academically-trained birdwatcher. I saw about 40 species of birds in a day in large part due to his expertise. I would happily choose other tours with this team.
