It is a very beautiful garden, it has endemic plants and plants from different places. It is very well laid out and largely accessible for wheelchairs. It has large areas of shaded trees, which is appreciated in the San Antonio summer heat. A quiet place. To enjoy with the family.
Good if you’re traveling with kids who need to blow off steam. If you like trees you’ll enjoy it. I go to see beautiful, colorful flowers which were lacking here. The plaques were terrible. They featured the name of a donor, but minimal info about the plants. The Japanese Tea Garden is a better option for beautiful flowers.
We went to the botanic gardens on Monday. All indoor exhibits were closed. There are no plaques on outdoor plants to tell you what species it is. Very few blooming flowers. We were highly disappointed for having to spend $16 per person.
First, there are no signs as to where the entrance/ticket gates are. Crucial because you cannot see it from the street level, it is hidden above on a hill. So many lots to park, several buildings, we parked several times and walked, wondering…. Finally saw a tourist bus to confirm at least we were in the correct area. Some workers saw us and were not surprised we were lost. Second, couple places we closed due to renovation but also like the cafe, it is off season now. The gift shop was open and cute, had some refreshments. Third, not thinking, since we just moved her from Florida, this is not the season to see blooms. Pretty dead except a few inside the Conservatories. Still a nice place to stroll in peace, when the school buses and kids were gone. There’s a lake, turtles, ducks, a nice view from a high tower, outdoor theatre, much to discover. Always want to support parks like this but next time will wait for the season. Tip: Not much for younger kids, a complaining toddler followed us as parents tried to convince him it was Disneyland. Be ready for a couple hills to push strollers through.
We have gone for several years as it was on our must do Christmas list. It was fantastic up until our last visit. They did away with the Christmas theme altogether and now have replaced it with a quirky butterfly and nature theme. Just not the same. Very disappointed!
We enjoyed our visit to the San Antonio Botanical Garden, but it would be much better in spring or summer (or during the evening for the lighted program). Several of the conservatories were not open due to maintenance activities. The ones that were very very pretty. The Texas landscapes were a highlight. Was fun to see three different regions all in one place.
Very nice space on Hop off Hop on bus line. Interesting interaction with sculptures. Friendly alternative and quite reflective space.
This place is a rip off and a joke. $22.00 per person to see dead plants, mostly with no placard to identify them, and a staff of all volunteers who know nothing about the plants they are killing. Yes a military/ veteran discount of $2. But what does $2 buy?
We spent the morning at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Very nice gardens and a super cute art installation that recently opened featuring "Bunnies,Birds and Butterflies" by artist, Hunt Slonerm.,
We had a few hours to kill before a late afternoon plane. We went here and it was quite a surprise. The place is larger than you think. And it is divided into areas with a very diverse variety of plants. Their indoor spaces were not large, but they made the most of those showcases. Loved the design of the buildings around each other, with sunken outdoor area in between. There were many kids here, and I don't think there's enough for kids to enjoy this place (though there was a small area specifically for kids). We are so glad we toured this garden and we'll go back when we're in town again.
