Took our 15 year old grandson for a few days in San Francisco. We spent days exploring the city and doing all the things. By far, this experience was the best part of of our whole trip. The tour guides were amazing and provided hands-on, real time, educational information about the animals of the bay. The boat ride was amazing and there was plenty of room for everyone to get on a side rail so they could see! We saw 2 whales, and the captain spent plenty of time letting us watch the whales dive and resurface. The sights of the bay were almost as awesome as spotting the whales. I loved the information about all the bay birds. If you could only book one outing while you were in San Francisco this is the one! Can't recommend it enough! Much love for the Kitty Kat crew!
We had a great time on the whale watching tour. Mandy was a great guide and was very knowledgeable. We did see some whales (we think it was the same one we kept seeing over again) but they gave us a good showing. I would recommend the tour if you are interested in seeing whales.
Great team, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Had a good but very cold trip. Spotted some whales and seals, not up close but safe and very special to see. Would do again in humpback season for sure trip not too long and has loo on board too. Take your own food as per instructions. Good trip. Recommend.
Sunny day on the Bay with San Francisco Whale Watching Tours! All the crew were so professional, thoughtful and fun people! Thank you especially to Maddie for the help with my mobility, Ryan & Mandy for all the great guidance and information. There was a lot to learn! We saw several Gray whales in the San Francisco Bay. Harbor Seals, Harbor porpoises, sea lions, cormorants & grebes. Thank you also to the Captain Joe! Awesome day! Great for families and every age people.
Fun to see a humpback whale and the crew was kind but don't expect to sit down. They have seating for only 30% of the passengers. At $60 -$100 price per person + taxes ($280 for a family of 4), you are paying to stand around on a small bumpy boat for 2 hrs and tell the staff where the whales are. They expect you to find the whales....so why pay for guide if they don't actually find the whales... Needless to say... disappointed
Highly recommended this tour company! They were knowledgeable kind and made you feel like part of the family. We spotted a whale about 30 minutes into the trip and continued to watch it surface along with a few porpoise the rest of the trip. The boat was comfortable and had several seats in the cabin that we could watch the wales from when we needed a break from the wind/weather. If you’re interested in whale watching go with this company!!
This was an absolutely incredible experience. The meet up spot was very easy to find, our naturalist Nate and ship crew were very informative and communicated safety clearly. We had great weather and quite a lot of gray whale activity. Even though that’s unpredictable being out on the bay in and of itself was well worth every penny. The only downside is it almost didn’t feel long enough, would’ve happily spent the whole day whale watching. Would come back again for another tour in a heartbeat. Thank you for an incredible tour.
This was a waste of money and a pretty horrible trip. No whales sighted and honestly would have been fine if they just called it off earlier instead of pushing to try to find a whale to earn their money. The captain was more concerned about seeing whales than actually following safety protocols on a boat in really rough seas. We heard later that tour boats not too far down the coast from where we were had capsized this same weekend due to the high surf. I was fine myself, other than annoyed at how horrible the surf was, but my husband was feeling pretty sick the whole time, and didn’t really get to enjoy the beautiful views that we don’t often see from the ocean of the bay. Also the only time I actually even saw the German shepherd, it was barking and growling madly at another dog as we climbed off of the boat. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly, but you could barely hear them talking about whale facts over the tourists gasping and screaming as we bumped roughly over every new swell.
While people who gave the tours were great, this was not for us. When the tour suggests wearing rain gear, take that seriously. You will get wet, some more than others. We were drenched and cold. There are also over 50 people on the boat so it was hard to squeeze to the front to view the whales which are not as close as you are thinking. About 100 yards is the closest you will be. The cabin is warm and has snacks for sale. Bear the Whale Spotting Dog is a cutie.
We had a great time! We saw whales and lots of marine life. Kayla, the naturalist, was excellent with lots of very new and interesting information. We highly recommend it. One request would be for better toilet facilities since the boat doesn't have a flush toilet. But this was a minor inconvenience and it was overshadowed by the wonderful experience.
