The views are stunning and the concert was wonderful. Be aware that the experience option offered for the fortress visit with concert option is a bit limited. Many areas are closed during dinner. You may only arrive 30 -45 minutes before the concert. We were a little disappointed to be so restricted in our visit. Still, the spectacular views and fabulous musicians make this a ‘top of the list’ of to-do’s in Vienna.
Was advertised as river cruise and then concert. 2-1/2 hours, done by 7:30. Instead, the cruise was done by 5:45, and the concert didn’t start till 8:30. We had made other plans after 7:30, and couldn’t make the concert because of the misleading time announcement.
The concert at the fortress with the sun setting behind the musicians was pure magic. The boat ride wasn’t much to write home about. We didn’t see much and it was really hot on board; I wouldn’t opt for that again. There is a two+ hour break between the end of the 5pm boat ride and the concert, which allowed for plenty of time for dinner or at least a glass of grüner veltliner while soaking up the views.
The boat trip and concert are two completely separate, unrelated activities 4 hours apart. Timings weren’t made clear until we collected the tickets for a 45 minute boat ride at 4pm and discovered the concert didn’t start until 8pm. Basically wasted three hours hanging around waiting to be allowed to get on the funicular to the fortress at 7pm. Would have been much better to book separately (directly) and do the boat trip at 6pm and go straight to the fortress. There’s no tour guide you’re just given a map of how to walk across Salzburg from boat to funicular. Lack of signage in the fortress (which is the size of a small village) made it difficult to find the concert, it took us about 25 minutes to find it once we’d got off the funicular. That said, the boat trip and concerts were both very enjoyable as separate activities.
Absolutely fantastic! Would definitely do this again. Make sure to take some time before the concert to wander around the Fortress!
Cruise was a bit boring, you get 5min excitement at the end, the concert was good, a few well known tunes were played, definitely worth heading up early to see the sunset as well
